US Politics The 2020 Trump Presidency Thread

Florida is hitting about 13k cases a day now.

What does Trump have to say about one of his most important swing states?

Too proud to wear a mask? What the fuck does it cost you man? Wear a mask even if it's just to make other people feel safer, even if you don't believe it. Wear a mask because you could be fucking wrong and then what? It's a fucking piece of cloth, railing against the suggestion (not even mandate) to wear one is a first world problem. Why so hostile? You used to be a lot less hostile. What happened to you? I legitimately want to know as I care about you from the PD days. Why so angry at people wearing masks? My mom's friend died of covid. My cousin worked in the ICU as a doctor during the first wave. Is my cousin lying? Is he a crisis actor? Chill out dude, who is it helping to shame a bunch of people trying to navigate through the world today for being careful about a pandemic? It certainly doesn't help convince anyone of your viewpoint.

i'd love to hear your answers to xorkoth's questions.

alasdair

I would love it if you responded in my QAnon thread about what you think about 3 star General Flynn ex head of Defense Inteligence Agency and Trumps National Security Council Adviser publicly posting him and his family taking the "QAnon oath"?

I figured out the virus was a fake bullshit hoax back in february. Wearing the mask is a symbol of subserviance, cowardice, ignorance, and fear. I refuse. Why should I put a mask on my face to make you or anyone else feel safe? Why don't you take off the mask to make me feel safe, even if you do not believe the virus is fake? Same shit, different side.

What are you gonna say when they tell the women you know to wear a burka, cuz "it's just a fucking piece of cloth"?

I do not know your cousing xorkoth, so I can not say. I personally was in the hospital two weeks back and spoke with a few nurses. From what I saw, it was a ghost town. From who I spoke with, they noticed many inconsistencies, and one responded positivly when I mentioned QAnon. So are these nurses liars when they say the corona virus is not as it appears?

Your friends mom died, and the death certificate says covid. This does not mean she died from covid.

Texas passed a "mandatory mask law" which I see flaunted everywhere I go.

But it provides several exceptions, including for children who are younger than 10 years old, people who have a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask

My medical condition is anxiety at the thought of wearing a mask because morons can't figure out #coronahoax is a globalist ploy and these riots are organized to destabilze the country "coincidentally" at the same time.

People with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), severe anxiety, or claustrophobia (an abnormal fear of being in enclosed or narrow places),[8] may feel afraid or terrified when wearing a face mask. These individuals may not be able to stay calm or function when wearing a face mask.

I am not trying to convince you of my viewpoint, just the truth.

draining the swamp and making america great again!

‘The swamp is alive and well in Washington, D.C.’ — 40 lobbyists with ties to Trump got $10 billion of federal coronavirus aid for their clients

Forty lobbyists with ties to President Donald Trump helped clients secure more than $10 billion in federal coronavirus aid, among them five former administration officials whose work potentially violates Trump’s own ethics policy, according to a report.

The lobbyists identified Monday by the watchdog group Public Citizen either worked in the Trump executive branch, served on his campaign, were part of the committee that raised money for inaugural festivities or were part of his presidential transition. Many are donors to Trump’s campaigns, and some are prolific fundraisers for his reelection.

They include Brian Ballard, who served on the transition, is the finance chair for the Republican National Committee and has bundled more than $1 million for Trump’s fundraising committees. He was hired in March by Laundrylux, a supplier of commercial laundry machines, after the Department of Homeland Security issued guidance that didn’t include laundromats as essential businesses that could stay open during the lockdown. A week later, the administration issued new guidance adding laundromats to the list.

Dave Urban, a Trump adviser and confidant, has collected more than $2.3 million in lobbying fees this year. The firm he leads, American Continental Group, represents 15 companies, including Walgreens and the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, on coronavirus issues.

Trump pledged to clamp down on Washington’s influence peddling with a “drain the swamp” campaign mantra. But during his administration, the lobbying industry has flourished, a trend that intensified once Congress passed more than $3.6 trillion in coronavirus stimulus.

While the money is intended as a lifeline to a nation whose economy has been upended by the pandemic, it also jump-started a familiar lobbying bonanza.

Trump Friends and Family Cleared for Millions in Small Business Bailout

that's the president. that's the guy who has 'our best interest at heart'.

The one thing Trump is really good at is branding and social media, and manipulation. He and his people have pulled off a hoodwink of majestic proportions. He's managed to convince the religious right to think he has been placed into the Presidency by God himself, which just continually blows my mind.

He's also managed to convince white America that he's advocating for them when he isn't.

Wow.

This right here is what's wrong with America.

Forcing something on the population based on religious reasons is worlds away from forcing something for public health reasons. I know you don't believe the virus is real but what you believe is not necessarily reality.

I'm going to trust my cousin over secondhand anecdotes from someone who clearly has an agenda.

Your friends mom died, and the death certificate says covid. This does not mean she died from covid.

She got sick, with fever, a dry cough, and ended up in the ICU on a ventilator and lungs full of fluid. MAYBE it's a total coincidence, but it seems much more likely that she caught the virus that claim is a hoax, like a great many other people.

Give me a fucking break. You have a medical anxiety condition brought on by wearing a mask because you think it's stupid? That's seeming pretty delicate and microcrystalline to me.

Even if you believe that the virus is real there is no reason to mandate masks for everyone.
Fauci via the WHO even came out originally and said there was no way a mask could even protect you from this virus.
Mandating masks and attempting to enforce social distancing between families has a more nefarious intent behind it.

Unfortunately cases like this have always been common, flu pandemics are nothing new.
It doesn't mean that it was specifically covid-related and actually 99.7% of people who contract covid survive.
Hospitals were being incentivized tens of thousands of dollars extra to put patients on ventilators. Some doctors were disagreeing with the practice.

It's important to remember that just because you survive doesn't mean that there isn't long term effects and quality of life reduced. Does that not deserve any consideration?

In regards to Fauci, the masks do not offer much protection for the person, correct. The science eventually showed it was an important mitigation factor to prevent spreading it to others, and since so many people were asymptomatic - which no one knew at the time - recommendations had to change.

Well we don't know that it's all simply speculation. But the more we learn, the more this looks like a pretty standard flu bug/coronavirus. Common each year, kills hundreds of thousands, never any panic or need for social restrictions.

Asymptomatic spread of coronavirus is ‘very rare,’ WHO says

So are we actually going to change our recommendations now that we know more? Or are we just going to pretend that it's normal for the governments to act like they have no idea and unquestionably support their unscientific controls?

That's a complex question. We have to acknowledge that the individual who said that had to go back and correct it - the data was based on a small subset of studies and they really just don't know yet - in other words, the WHO does not acknowledge this claim. With that being said, if it is found out to be true, then absolutely that needs to be taken into consideration and weighted appropriately, 100%.

I think another issue right now is with Trump completely in denial about the virus, it creates a lot of issues for officials to feel like they're walking on eggshells and scared of contradicting him for fear of retaliation that is a true concern. And it also creates a portion of our population who truly believe him and refuse to believe it.

Yeah they're also censoring doctors and medical professionals who are calling them out.
The WHO is not to be trusted and I truly feel sorry for anyone living somewhere where masks are mandated.

On Feb.14th, Fauci said that he knew masks worked, but told everyone they didn't because he just wanted available masks to be saved for care workers.
Let's think this through.
Care workers treat sick people, and needed masks to avoid contracting the virus themselves and spreading it to patients.
But if masks work, and people were told so, they would have worn them and there would have been a lot less sick people for care workers to treat, supposedly.
So this doesn't really make much sense.
The truth is that, by early March, the virus had already spread so far and wide, that wearing masks was of no use in halting the spread of the virus, in which case, why are we wearing them now when deaths have bottomed out and the virus is, essentially, gone? (the uptick in "cases" from testing is irrelevant since deaths continue to decline).

What you just posted (the first part, before "Let's think this through") is true - minus "told everyone they didn't" - and was the correct decision to be made. At that time, masks did need to be prioritized to health care workers due to extreme shortages. There is nothing wrong with that, at all.
