Twitter bans President Trump permanently

Twitter has suspended President Donald Trump from its platform, the company said Friday evening.
"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter said.
"In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action."

They aren't silencing everybody, they've silenced Trump, because his constant spreading of lies and misinformation have done significant damage to our democracy.
 
I think Trump knows he is in trouble. I mean he was already in trouble but this was almost terrorist. Imagine if these were dark skinned people doing that? Incredible. The fallout is happening quick. The FBI is already going into some lawmakers homes. We will see that dude that was sitting at Nancy Pelosi's desk apologize on air soon at the request his lawyer (just a hunch). I bet about 1/3 wished they never did that. 1/3 wanted to get violent. But people are just now watching video's and just digesting what happened. That stupid woman who got shot pisses me of because her German Shepard dog no longer gets the best of her. I mean people will reap the results of their actions at some point. But people around them will too.

I have such little tolerance for nonsense. When the Russia probe was happening there were bill presented to tighten up the elections but shot down by Republicans each time. Then they cry fraud? Please. Trump was bragging in the beginning that you want someone smart enough to dodge taxes and now he has the IR after him. Yeah, I do have little tolerance for nonsense.

You can tell a lot from someone's eyes.

One thing about FDR. That Ken Burns The Roosevelts documentory was fascinating. Teddy R started a lot of public park preservation. A far cry from today's republican. I also went to the FDR house in Hyde Park. It was there I learned of the internment camps. So while I do like FDR, I absolutely think that was sick to round up Japanese, take them from their homes (but no pets) and put them in camps. I find that as sick as kids in cages. I know it was to protect Americans after Pearl Harbor. But something in me thinks it is sick and takes away from what I think of FDR. It broke the Golden Rule. And I think if people followed the Golden Rule we would be better off.

Trump will get sick and die before he takes any punishment for his 10,000 crimes. But although I have a lot of opinions I try and refrain from argument. It is said a wise man never argues. I am trying to be that but blew it with this post. lol

I'm not saying addiction isn't something America should concern itself with, but I really don't agree with your comparison; that somehow the novel coronavirus is a lesser evil than mere opioid addiction. I feel much more concerned about exposure to viruses than being exposed to drugs. Trying drugs or not is a choice every individual makes, but you can't choose (as an individual) to avoid an epidemic of this proportion.
I understand the point you are making but we really shouldn't be comparing the two. They are both horrible in there own right. For those who were caught up in the opiod epidemic it is very real and an all encompassing tragedy.

It was a choice at one time for me but my 19yr old self with back pain was extremely naive about the oxy's he was prescribed. I've battled opiate addiction my whole life. Nobody talked about the dangers of those pills doctors were despensing like candy back then. 21yrs later, I would say that opiate addiction has affected me much more than the corona virus.

It ravaged my neighborhood in Florida. I have a little league picture where 5 of the kids out of 13 died from overdoses. My girlfriend asphyxiated on her own vomit and died in my arms. My best friend since kindergarten, whose picture of us taking our girlfriends to prom, sits on my mantle to honor his life; was wiped out last year. I have lived with this destruction in my Florida wasteland for half my life. The destruction here was all consuming. Everybody has a story.

Due to the neurological and endocrine damage I've suffered it's almost not a choice anymore. It stays with you forever. Don't dismiss that which has not touched your life.

The corona virus is also a horrible American tragedy. It does us no good to belittle others pain in a time when we should be coming together. Both deserve our attention and we can overcome both.

We should all agree that both epidemics are a plague on our country. Now it's time to do something about it. Everyone needs to have faith and realize that we're all Americans and are suffering in our own way but we are also the future and I know that we can come out the other side of this struggle, stronger and United. "Together we stand, divided we fall. "Be the change....". Now is the time to drop anomosity and the us, them mentality.

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that amoung these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"

These words have meaning and it's time to finally make it a reality. America healing.... America rising. We are the people.

We're done with the divisiveness. This liberal, conservative nonsense doesn't make America. Most of us are in the middle and I have faith in the future. We are going to work together. I've had no problem saying what I want but sedition is a crime and it's over.
 
Yeah I was amazed at how many people took absolutely no measures to conceal their identity, in this covid era no less, where there's a perfect pretext for at least masking your face
 
so isis, murderous leaders like iran can have twitter accounts promoting the genocide of homosexuals is okay on twitter. but trump complaining because he lost even if he puts false statements out there is not?. Trump can not even use the nuclear codes it has to pass through a few of the highest levels of command once authorized.

He can pardon people he chooses and also himself.

I dont tweet at all and if I did I wouldn't care about Trumps account or follow it , nor would I follow radical isis extremists.

Banning his account is just going to drive more attention to twitter itself and more people discussing that rather than the actual event.

I doubt FDR would have appeal these days, this generation are not the same

You made the comparison between opioid addiction and coronavirus and I pointed out the ways in which addiction is a bigger crises than the coronavirus in the USA. Just because you may personally be more afraid of exposure to viruses doesn't mean that everyone is or should be.

Secondly, you can choose to avoid the coronavirus provided you have the means. Many people are. You can literally sit at home on unemployment or work from home and order all your food curbside pickup and you will be able to get a vaccine soon.

Of course, not everyone has the means but not everyone has the means to avoid the effects of drugs either. If you grow up in a community torn apart by addiction, or your parents or close family members are addicts, you will be much more likely to succumb to addiction yourself not to mention all the collateral damage and misery it causes people who never take drugs themselves. A very large percentage of crime in America is related to addiction as well, so if you get mugged or your home or business gets broken into you can still be a victim of the impact of drugs without ever using them yourself.

I'd also argue that you're expecting too much if you expect the government to save you from a highly infectious respiratory virus. Aside from a few places like New Zealand, governments all across the world have failed to contain the virus and this being despite unprecedented containment measures including shutting down society and outlawing some of the most basic human behaviors necessary for mental health. A tremendous amount of damage has been done to people as a result of coronavirus lockdowns and restrictions and it still failed to stop the virus from becoming widespread anyway.

On the other hand, the addiction issue could be addressed in ways that are far less costly and don't restrict peoples freedom nearly as much. For example, we could start by simply start providing opioid addicts with better maintenance drugs so they don't need to inject street heroin that's often actually fentanyl and there would be a drastic drop in overdose deaths virtually overnight. With addicts under the care of a doctor or addiction nurse or whatever, it would then be a lot easier to ease them off drugs if they were willing to consider that option (which could be incentivized). Instead the drug war continues, enriching cartels and causing the streets to be flooded with highly dangerous drugs like fentanyl simply because they are cheap to produce.
