US Politics The 2020 Trump Presidency Thread

You honestly believe that it was antifa who stormed the capital? Really? What about that guy who is famous for being the QAnon prophet or whatever, who dresses in a horned helmet and opposes everything left-related, being there? What about the republican senators who were in the crowd and are now claiming that the storming of the building didn't even take place and that it was just a bunch of peaceful patriots?

I just can't... I'm gonna stop bothering. Never mind

You can't beat ignorance my friend. It's times like this that remind me why I'm a gun-toting shut-in... this whole event made me depressed and fearful of my fellow Americans. Nothing like this has ever happened in the history of our nation... Insurrection is definitely the apt word here.

It was very exciting to wake up Thursday though and read that Mitch and Mike both gave in finally and condemned the violence, and conceded that Biden won, and congress moved on and finally certified the landslide vote. And then both the Georgia senate seats went to Democrats because the Republican party split its voter-base lol... that just cracks me up.

Look, I am actually sincerely sorry if I have riled your emotions. I am never ever intending to do this to anybody I swear, I admit when one of my own nerves is occassionally touched, which have been very dangly recently, I can react with fiery, protestry passion, mostly defensively and out of principle if I feel strongly that unfair or unjustified insinuations have been made towards me on a personal level, or a particular topic which is very close to my heart, and have done so recently.

But I never wish to cause others distress or anger.

Essentially, we each have very different views and beliefs, into which anything new can be fitted, shuffled and shaped, rightly or wrongly.

I know very well that feeling you express- can't be bothered anymore- and I feel sorry to be the trigger of that emotion in you here.

But I have my beliefs which I am ready to abandon, but only when I feel inside me I cannot justify or support them any longer.

I will never look back in shame or embarassment, and will willfully embrace any truth which is made solidly clear to me, however far from my own belief system.

I pray for and welcome such enlightenment.

I really do not wish to rile you further, so I will be brief, and typically natural, I didn't want to leave this this way.

I believe (and so do a great many) Antifa is a genuine terrorist organisation, funded and scripted by the deep state as an arm of the overall thorough and comprehensive plan to remove Trump from office.

That's my belief for now. The fact is, this Trump fan capitol storming, ESPECIALLY with fatalities- "reported"- NOT a good look for Trump, plain and simple.

It seems very feasible that an opposition could instigate and stage an artificial violent protest, allegedly in Trump's name.

Dressed up, T-shirts and all. It could appear to be very real, with cosmetics and stage props.

This does not exclude the chance or likelihood that genuine Trump supporters joined in to some degree. I believe a number did.

I did not need to mention Antifa in the post I made above, I knew it may trigger strong rejection, even mockery.

I just found the slo-mo video footage of this alleged shooting interesting. So much about it screams to me- Staged.

I am sorry for touching a nerve.

you know what's not a good look for trump? a feckless response to a pandemic which has now claimed the lives of 365,000 americans. the persistent claim that the election was 'stolen' when courts across the land have completely and utterly rejected dozens and dozens of lawsuits in which the trump campaign was unable to prove this claim.

i'm starting to think that maybe it's trump who's the antifa actor because nobody is doing a better job of showing what an unqualified, incompetent failure trump is than trump :)

Can we all just accept that Trump is wrong about just about everything at least? There's truth, there's lies, then there's Mr. Trump... my God I can't wait for him to be out of my daily news feed. He flip flops more in a minute than John Kerry did during his entire presidential campaign.

What's especially sad is he labelled the 'opioid epidemic' a 'crisis' yet only ~50k Americans died over a multiyear period from opioid ODs. 350k+ deaths in one year from a virus though? Not an emergency, obviously...

when even rats like betsy devos are jumping off the sinking ship, you know you're in trouble
Yeah, not even two weeks left of her job and she's quitting lol. Kinda wish she'd have quit like I dunno, four years ago, but it still brings a smile to my face :)

absolutely. but i do give her credit for explicitly calling trump out for his role in the events at the capitol: "There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me..."

Speaking of Kayleigh. What the FUCK happened HERE? I had to look twice and at two different channels just to verify that it’s the same person!

Oh well. There goes that for sure! Damn. She looks likes she’s aged ten years and just come out of the wash machine!

Right!? I actually was talking about that yesterday, I think that represents just how bad it is in the WH lately.

Even if it's just to save face, good for her.

I wonder how many of his supporters in government (among whom surely there aren't many actual Trump cultists, but rather people who see what he is but hang on to him for the sake of politics/party loyalty) have woken up to just how wrong it was for them to enable him all this time? It's all fun and games until an armed citizen mob breaks into the capital building to disrupt the democratic process and you have to hide for fear of being killed.

Tactically it was kind of fun, it reminded me of political theater that some left-wing groups did during the 60s & 70s. Of course it's tragic that people died, I don't want to undermine that, but some of the pictures were amusing. There's just a part of me that loves watching a motley mob of uncouth barbarians scandalize the so-called respectable citizens, even if I think that the reason for the action is stupid beyond belief

Strategically, however, it was a big mistake. Trump could have retreated from public life for a bit, licked his wounds, regrouped & come back in a couple years (with the way news cycles/attention spans are these days people may even forget that his incompetence led to 350,000+ deaths)...I mean, in 4 years he'll be as old as Biden is now & I don't have a lot of faith that Biden will do much to go against the Democratic Party's wealthy backers & make meaningful improvements in people's lives...we need a modern-day FDR and he ain't that. But with this embarrassing attempted putsch "Trumpism" is p. much discredited for the time being anyway (thank god)...

Addiction in America is certainly a crises and overall a worse one than the corona virus. Opioids may have only killed 50k but how many more lives have they destroyed? Also, the average age of a corona virus death is 82 while the average age of an opioid OD is less than half that. This virus problem will end and vaccines are already being distributed, whereas addiction will continue to ravage lives, destroy communities and kill people far into the future.

I'm not saying addiction isn't something America should concern itself with, but I really don't agree with your comparison; that somehow the novel coronavirus is a lesser evil than mere opioid addiction. I feel much more concerned about exposure to viruses than being exposed to drugs. Trying drugs or not is a choice every individual makes, but you can't choose (as an individual) to avoid an epidemic of this proportion.
