I like that we've changed tone. This is much better.
What does politics mean to you? What do you not like about the "system"?
Everything is fake. The news is fake. Politicians are fake. Most information is wrong. Everybody is lying all the time. Even if Trump is a liar, at least he's pointing out that everybody is lying and the whole fucking system is corrupt. The hypocrisy of Trump being part of that broken system is less significant, to me, than exposing it. You can't fix something until you admit that it's broken. A lot of people think the United States is broken. A lot of people are disillusioned with the social climate.
Like I said, I don't like political correctness. I believe in fundamental free speech and the left is a threat to that fundamental right. There is no free speech in Australia. It's not in our constitution. It is important to maintain this fundamental right not just for the US but for the world at large... There's a lot of people on here that are so politically divided they - as a default setting - detest anyone who supports the Trump administration. I find this more alarming and dictatorial than anything that Trump has done or said.
Up to the 1950's, the western world was pretty conservative. Then there was a shift towards left wing (social) values. I believe it is now starting to trend in the other direction. We've been travelling down the left path too long now. We need to go right for a while or we'll eventually get lost.
I said in another thread, if you built a super computer - much smarter than any human and capable of independent thought - it would be a republican. The right is the brain and the left is the heart, which is not to say that people on the left are any less intelligent than those on the right. They aren't. Similarly, those on the right don't have less capacity for empathy. It's just an analogy... I think we need both the left and the right and I believe political correctness is an aftermath of the 1960s. Society naturally oscillates back and forth. This is why we have a bipolar governmental system.
I have faith in the world, I just think we need change. The republican party needs to re-invent itself. Although I'm not a huge fan of abortion in certain contexts, we'd be better off not including that in the decision making process for government. The same applies to marijuana legislation. We need the right, right now. Cutting off one of our wings isn't going to help us fly. This is why it frustrates me - and others - when people treat right wingers like shit. It's not just Trump. It happened with Bush.
It's not good for anyone. If Trump is an asshole, why use that as an excuse to act like an asshole to people who aren't Trump? I'm not saying this to you, I'm just trying to explain my position because people appear to be confused as to how it's possible that I like Trump without being a piece of shit.
Do you not feel capable of making a change within that system?
I'm sure I have influenced some people in a positive way, but I have a family and a job and I'm trying to build towards a self-sustaining eco-friendly lifestyle. So, I don't have much time for other people. It's not my position to make significant changes within the system and I don't expect Trump to. He is a ripple. Significant change is coming. It may happen during his presidency and it may not. I doubt it will be that soon, but I can wait...
I wasn't convinced he was going to lose the election, but - if I had to bet - I probably would have bet against him winning. I thought he had a way better chance than anybody else I know. A lot of people (particularly males) don't hate Trump as much as the average CEP contributor. If you talk to them alone and say you like Trump and explain why, people aren't socially pressured to say one thing or another. I get all sorts of shit out of people. I can be charming and I know how to dig. So, I wasn't hugely surprised when he won.
It didn't matter to me if he won as long as he didn't lose by a large margin. That's all I needed to convince me that the dam was breaking. Before he was elected, I wasn't sure which was better: losing slightly or winning. Because I didn't know what the fuck he was going to do once he was in office. In retrospect, I'm glad he won. It would have been better if he won by a large margin.
I saw him, in a video the other day, saying to a reporter, "Don't be a baby." I don't know why the fuck the president has to do so many god damned press interviews and put up with annoying angry little reporters yelling manipulative shit at him about topics that are so menial and irrelevant to the real problems of the world. Why does everybody have to play this stupid game? The answer is: they don't. Trump is not playing it and there are no consequences. We can all breathe easy and get real, for once. Let's skip all the fancy speeches and all the fake news. It's all utter crap.
I'm concerned that the US is getting weak. It's too soft. The western world is full of a bunch of snowflakes... We need to toughen up, or this empire will fall like all the other great empires in history.
