I found the following link http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=159710 to a thread where its claimed that THC would actually be effective at blocking the spread of the herpes virus but i stumbled on the following today @ http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/78599.php

The major active component of marijuana could enhance the ability of the virus that causes Kaposi's sarcoma to infect cells and multiply, according to a team of researchers at Harvard Medical School. According to the researchers, low doses of '-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), equivalent to that in the bloodstream of an average marijuana smoker, could be enough to facilitate infection of skin cells and could even coax these cells into malignancy.

While most people are not at risk from Kaposi's sarcoma herpes virus (KSHV), researchers say those with lowered immune systems, such as AIDS patients or transplant recipients, are more susceptible to developing the sarcoma as a result of infection. Their findings, reported in the August 1 issue of Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, offer cautionary evidence that those with weakened immune systems should speak with their doctors before using marijuana medicinally or recreationally.

"These findings raise some serious questions about using marijuana, in any form, if you have a weakened immune system," said lead study author Jerome E. Groopman, M.D., professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Who is correct here? University of south florida claiming that it may block the spread of herpes or Harvard..which claims pretty much the opposite?

Thanks for any info here! I dont like herpes. :)

^basically

Theres been more than one study showing thc suppressing the herpes virus, btw.

afaik cannabis or thc can lower your immune system which may make you more susceptible to herpes outbreaks - also don't share your pipes unless you wipe the mouthpiece w/alcohol swab....=D<3

i think its more related to sharing pipes and especially bongs with a bunch of people

Remember, when it comes to research and information discovered about pot, or any thing, look at the source. Is it scientific? Is it hear-say? Are there numbers and stats? Also, "maybe" and "possible" mean very minimal in the world of research. The truth is, most people know very little about most things. Scary huh?

Disgusting for me to think of but true, my ex had a problem with herpe outbreaks on her lips every so often, maybe once a month tops. I smoke weed everyday, in 2 years had being with her, never had an issue, knock on wood, Maybe it was the Piff! At least i dont have to worry about that anymore :D

WOW. A little off topic, but I knew a guy who fucked a gal who I knew had the herp, but he didn't know. We didn't want to tell him, cause it would have ruined our vacation We all inoculated our pipe for a week or two after that night, after he hit the bowl. Funny shit...

Glad I don't have the package!

let's also keep in mind this article is only talking about one kind of herpes(which might be found in AIDS patients) and not the ones which are common which we generally associate the word herpes with i.e. oral and genital.
