Lately it seems that text talk is everywhere on forums. Im sure i sound like a grumpy old man here but its just fuckin annoying. Its bad enough that hardly anyone talks to each other face to face or even over a telephone cause of the new technology but it just seems a new level of laziness has developed. Are we so lazy that we cant even spell out whole sentences anymore?

Do you see?

Text speak doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is people that are unable to disconnect from their devices while at their desk or at a social situation such as dinner.

It could just be coincidence but i've noticed that most of new employees we hire that are under 25 seem to have terrible difficultly leaving their phone alone while at work. If it makes noise they have to check it immediately, if they are tied up with something else and can't check their phone i've started to notice this strange uneasiness and sense of urgency come over them, often rushing whatever they are doing so they can go check their phone. just leave it.. the message will be there later. It's really bizarre.

it's actually a proven thing that technology (and the internet) are really just like other addictions, and you can get an actual withdrawl, including one that you can measure !

so them not being able to let go is quite similar to the coke fiend just eyeing the bathroom stall for the next time he ll need to get a fix.

sadly, i feel a promoter of textspeak myself, with the lack of capitalization and frequent missuse of commas and quotes

considering most words in modern linguistics are just taken from a Latin word that already existed im not really sure what you are trying to defend here. This has been happening for over 1500 years, the internet just really, really sped up the process

I predict in 50 years we're gonna be writing our names with hash tags in front of them
