Hello, I am a 25 year old Caucasian male weighing 145lbs...

I have a hell of a time putting on muscle mass...have maybe 20 chest hairs...and can barely grow a beard. Am I just a terrible example of a man? or is it possible I am deficient in testosterone?

TIA

Some people just don't have good luck growing facial hair, I'm one of them. Is it because our test is lower than most? You'd have to go take a hormone test. I've actually been thinking about it too.

But the most probable explanation is that you are not at an extremely low level and just need to eat more and maybe switch up your training every couple of weeks. You will not gain if you don't eat a surplus of calories.

Blood tests.....

Yes, sorry about that should have been more clear on that TRT = testosterone replacement therapy and it's a serious decision, because if you change your mind stopping and recovering natural hormone production can be hard (especially if your own hormonal system wasn't exactly healthy to begin with).

I'm 32 and can relate to the facial and body hair issues. I've always been able to add mass and strength little by little, but and interesting thing happened to me when I was 31. I suddenly began to put on mass seemily quickly with half the effort I put in when I was your age. IDK if my testosterone is peaking at a later age for me or what, but I'm not complaining. I still can't grow a decent mustache though.

Make sure your not over training. I know some guys that used to work the same muscle groups too often and ended up doing the opposite of what they were trying to do.

Like others have said, I'd get your labs done. No one can evaluate your test levels through a post on a forum. I'm around your age, and I can't grow a full beard either. It's genetics bro, it's not test (at least for the facial hair). My father, grandfather, etc couldn't grow a full beard until they were in their early-mid 30's.

More than likely, I think you need to evaluate your diet. You gotta eat to gain bro. Try upping your calorie count, and check out your protein intake. I'll give you an idea of my calorie intake.

Height: 6'3
Weight: 205-208
Calories: 2200+/-
Fat g: 55-100
Carb g: 150-300 (or less, often less)
Protein: 233+/- (depending on what's going on, I always get at least 1g per lbs of bodyweight) During a gain, I'm eating 1.5g+ per lbs of body weight (not lean body mass).

My mate is 6'3, and 165 lbs. He is dirty gaining (eating 5000+ calories a day) just to gain an ounce at a time. You may have a similar metabolism. I'd evaluate your diet heavily before you assume it's a testosterone issue. Body building is 80% diet. Of course, I mean this will all due respect, if you're eating well and not gaining, you may have some kind of issue.

Cheers,
Kas

Thanks for the replies...I am making an appointment to get blood work done next week.
