testing on wax paper

I know the prefered surface for testing is on white ceramic, but as well all know its not always pratical. A friend of mine is using wax paper that he carries in his test kit. Is this ok?

If it doesn't react with the surface, then it's ok. Drop some on a surface, if it doesn't change color, it doesn't react.

I'd put a piece of white paper behind it as well, to help colour changes show up...
