Here's my experience :
• Prozac (Fluoxetine)
Gives me akathisia,I can't focus clearly,it only inhibits reuptake of Serotonin. I read in some research papers that it has an indirect antagonist of Dopamine (it's sort of antipsychotic like effect, causing restlesness, not stimulant like effect as some sources stated wrongly. ).
• Paxil and Luvox
A bit sedating, luvox is more sedating, has anticholinergic effect, as for memory booster, anticholinergic is not what we want.
• All tricyclics
Sedating. Not much useful as to clear up the thinking process. It's referred as "Dirty mood brighteners". (found in www.biopsychiatry.com)
• Mannerix/Aurorix (Moclobemide) - ( MIMS online)
I find it helpful. But,I make sure to crush the hard tabs, swallow it on empty stomach with water. I take it 300mg early morning,300mg around 3pm. It works great.
It increases Serotonin,Noradrenaline,Dopamine,PEA, in the brain, by inhibiting MAO-A (MAO-B,too,at higher dose). I find it non sedating, no mental cloudiness unlike SSRI/SNRI or TCA etc. It's also non stimulating unlike Ritalin etc.
I just feel happy, after taking it. It must be bcoz of the increase in Neurotransmitters in my brain. I feel I could focus, think clearly. My mood is is stable, and I don't feel depressed while on it.
It has a short half life- 2 hours. But inhibition of Monoamines is up to 24hours.
But, allow 2-3 weeks bfore I notice the effect. After the body adjust to it,then increase the dose, max 600mg/day.
Many people derive little benefit,I think bcoz of the absorption. So I crush the tabs and swallow with water to ensure high bioavailability.
