Testgrow Orange Buds f1

I look forward to my crops so much I couldn't stand if something bad happened to them.

Then you would've died if you were around on my second indoor grow, bad clones, cold weather (-20 celcius outside) and just all-round silly fuck ups. It was horrible. =D

Anyways, all the plants showed sex by today. Such a great result, usually 50/50, but I ended up with 13 females and only 6 males! Makes me a happy monkey. I'm eagerly awaiting some budsites. Hope they'll fill up the gaps that the other plants left. They most probably will, because they've already grown quite a bit since the last update, it was getting pretty damn full in there.

Yeah really, it surprised me. Oh well, you get lucky sometimes. Here's how it looks now, was a bit of shifting around trying to get them all in their place, so hard with an uneven number of plants.

And one more at the moment the light went on, gives a slightly better view of the colours:

Let me get back on what I said damnit. Seems like 3-4 plants are still question marks, I'm not really sure what to think of them, but they look like males now. So it's probably going to be 3-4 plants less and then I'll end up with 9 or 10 females. Still a good number. If that's the case I'm transferring the remaining plants to 12 litre pots, can just fit 9 of those into the box.

I see. Yeah, just your regular soil.. I don't have EC, PH or tensiometers, I do everything on sight and touch. It'd be pretty hard to correctly feed your plants on soilless without fancy equipment.

Checked on the plants today, they're showing first signs of sex, it's still so small though, I'll wait a few more days untill I'm sure of their gender, I've been wrong in the past going of the signs on the first few days. Also, in the last pic you can see it; the plant in the bottom right corner has leaves which bend up and downwards a little on the edges. IIRC that's a sign of a magnesium deficiency, if anyone wants to correct me on this, feel free to do so. I'll add some epsom salt to the water I use for foilar feeding anyways.

Its no harder to feed your plants using soilless than soil...(its just hydro without the pumps really!) .there is just no real nutrients in the mix (although i add worm castings and dolomite)but iv found that given the mix is so much lighter, the plants are able to breath easier and to drink there food quicker allowing for a quicker, slightly more substantial and better final product come harvest....!just my thoughts and what ive found from the past ten years of trying different methods.....!i started with soil, then used soil with pumice, then started adding lime, then found worm castings.....then i discovered there is absolutly no need for soil as such at all!!!its also about thesame price if not cheaper to use pumice or perlite and neem coir as it is buying good soil and still having to mix in pumice, lime, castings etc etc

Yeah, but you still have to work with EC and PH meters if you grow hydro. If you don't, well, then I have no idea how you keep your plants alive.

the plants are able to breath easier and to drink there food quicker

That's why I add cocospeat.

I ditched another plant, leaving 12. I've got one hermaphrodite, the sneakiest kind of herm. It grows calyxes with pistils, but hidden in the calyxes are tiny banana's. Just gonna keep a close eye on that plant, pinch every sign of male sex, they tend to focus on budding if you do that, if it doesn't, then I'll simply throw it away.

I thought I had already mentioned this, but the OB's are all extremely herm prone, pretty much all plants turned herm on me late in the second week of flowering. It hasn't got anything to do with (light) stress, because the circumstances were near perfect. It's the genetics, I must've used a parent with bad genes, the shitty thing was that both of the parents showed no signs of the opposite sex, so I had no clue.

I pinched off all of the balls to save the harvest, because things were going great, very little differences between the plants and good bud development.
So that pretty much was it. I might post a few pics here when they're done, nothing more.

Well, just because they're looking pretty damn good I decided to post some pics of the things. One day I might grow out a couple hundred of seeds to find that one plant that doesn't have any herm tendencies, but for now I'm not growing any OB's anymore for a long while.. Maybe femaleseeds is interested. :p

You can't really tell very clearly by the pictures, but there's 2 phenotypes, both the OB#1 and OB#2 pheno's are represented; which was exactly what I was looking for, with the OB#2 pheno being the dominant one. Only 2 plants are leaning more towards the sativa-ish side, the other ten are heavily indica dominant. This is end of the 5th week or half way through the 6th week of flowering something, I haven't been taking notes.. White pistils everywhere, they look like they need a solid 3 more weeks, but I think I'm going to give them two, don't want to waste too much time on them.

Anyways, on to the pics. Here's the 2 pheno's next to eachother:

wowwwwww beautiful! just a few more weeks then eh? you can errr.. send me some samples... for... quality assurance, you know ;)

Damn man they're looking great. I'm starting my grow soon, got a strawberry strand I'm going to use, along with just some randoms.

I'd love to know what the average yield for one of these plants you have is.

I dunno, they look like they're averaging 20-25 grams a plant, with 2-3 down to the 15-20 grams. I'd guess something to the effect of ~250 grams all-together. Bear in mind that this grow wasn't for the weight, but merely to see how'd they develop. I could've used the space and plants more efficiently, but I wanted to let them grow untouched to see their specific traits.

the photos of the male a female parent both have thin leaves and the ones your growing now look like they have thicker leaves. is this just because they are young plants..? or is there an actuall difference that im seeing..

I'd say the difference lies primarily in the fact that these plants have been growing inside their whole lives, more fingers, bigger leaves, the fan leaves are a little fatter as well, but overall there isn't much difference between these two plants for example:
