Tell Me Straight-What Can I Expect-OXY WD

OK, I have been on oxy 30's on and off for about 2 months

I have been blowing 1 a day either spread out thru the day or a full one at night after work. I go a little crazier on the weekends and might do 4 or 5.

I want to quit cold turkey and want to know how long you guys might think the WDs will last? Are we talking a few days here or a week? I know everyone is different and my addiction is much less than some other members here.

but anyone think they could offer a general time frame?

I have had WD before...I had a POD tea addiction of 2-3 mammoth PODS a day for about 3 months...went cold turkey thinking I would be fine...it was hell and the pain lasted a week but it was so bad I have never had any tea in almost 2 years, then again i felt like death.

Can anyone offer any sage wisdom on how long this WD will last? Any speculation would be appreciated. Thanks

Symptoms of withdrawal from opiates include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, leg cramps, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, and cravings for the drug itself.

Additional withdrawal symptoms include, but are not limited to, rhinitis (irritation and inflammation of the nose), lacrimation (tearing), severe fatigue, lack of motivation, moderate to severe and crushing depression, feelings of panic, sensations in the legs (and occasionally arms) causing kicking movements which disrupt sleep, dangerously elevated heart rate and blood pressure (which cause most deaths by withdrawal, but are usually noted upon autopsy as "stroke," etc., not "stroke pursuant to opioid withdrawal syndrome"), chills, gooseflesh, headaches, anorexia (lack of appetite), benign fasciculation syndrome, mild or moderate tremors, and other adrenergic symptoms, severe aches and pains in muscles and perceivably bones, and weight loss in severe withdrawal.

Depending on the quantity, type, frequency, and duration of opioid use, the physical withdrawal symptoms last for as little as 5 days and as much as 14 days. When long acting opioids like methadone (Methadose) or buprenorphine (brand names: Suboxone [buprenorphine in a 4:1 ratio to naloxone] and Subutex [pure buprenorphine])are used for an extended period physical withdrawal symptoms can last up to two months and are sometimes followed by a very long period of depression, fatigue, and trouble sleeping which could last up to two years which is sometimes referred to as P.A.W.S or Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome which is more severe and tends to occur more frequently with long acting opioids. The user, upon returning to the environment where they usually used opiates, can experience environmentally implied physical withdrawal symptoms well-after regaining physical homeostasis - or the termination of the physical withdrawal phase by synthesis of endogenous opioids (endorphins) and upregulation of opioid receptors to the effects of normal levels of endogenous opioids. These implied symptoms are often just as distressing and painful as the initial withdrawal phase.

Wikipedia is as straight up as you can get. I took vicodin for months straight quit cold turkey and didn't WD. Depends on a lot of biological factors.

Opiate wd and benzo wd are hell, worst two addictions ever. When someone asks for advice on getting through WD I always say try starting an antipsychotic, Seroquel (quetiapine) is used for opiate addiction for example. Seroquel also makes you EXTREMELY drowsy at doses 25-150mg. Paradoxical effect, no addiction risk, no tolerance. So while taking this you have the option of sleeping through your wd, waking up to eat and drink. Yeah, it's that strong. Otherwise, start taking some benzos for a short period of time (~2wks). Just don't abuse them whatever you do. I recommend Klonopin or Valium as they both have extremely long half lifes.

ive been off the Subs and OC's for a while. But the one thing that sticks..... RLS after you get through all the other shit (although 2 months shouldnt be that bad)

Requip helps alot
and if u can get a benzo

Valium is your best bet for helping you through WD.
Also, you will need to get an XR version of the seroquel. It doesn't have that "Kick" of IR and will keep you from being too agitated for the following day.

Seroquel 50-100 mgs IR + 300mg XR (This sounds like it's a lot, but it's a small dose compared to the amount they give you for being schizo.) and 10mgs of valium twice daily.

This is for a 6 day detox. I've done it a grand total of 2 times. Still not finished paying for them. The last visit was last year.

Seroquel really WILL keep you asleep forever. I was on it for a few weeks (for bipolar purposes) and I asked my doc if I could stop, because it was making me sleep 12-14 hour nights and I was waking up feeling completely exhausted. Originally I was on XR, he switched me to IR (which honestly didn't change anything, I was still sleeping long and hard), and now I'm off completely. Clonidine still keeps me in bed for 9-10 hours, but it's a little less absurd.

i'm sor tof in the same boat except coming off of wthdrawl with a few months of subs mixed in there... I am ABUSE+ING my prescribed xanax... I have been taking 8mgs a day...for two weeks... what shoud I do?

Tell your doctor or psychiatrist exactly what you told us, you don't want to take any chances with benzo withdrawal, you don't want to have a seizure.

Two weeks isn't that long but I don't know if you were on them before that, the first step is to taper, but I'd call your doctor and tell him/her your situation they most likely won't judge you and if they do who the fuck cares this is your life and withdrawing from benzos too quick or going cold turkey could be fatal. You gotta do what you gotta do, you could just say you were having extra bad panic attacks and had to take more if you're too ashamed to admit that you were abusing them. Good luck, get help, there is no need to suffer needlessly when help is out there.

A competent responsible doctor will realize the potential danger of your situation and will prescribe you something to taper with or refer you to someone that can help you.

oneswtwld, I'm with unsettled. You need more to taper. It sounds like you have the motivation and the self control to stop the abuse if given the means (enough time). Call your doc, tell him you're up to 8mg a day and you only have 30mg left. 99% he will write you another script, since benzo withdrawal can be fatal.

IF he doesn't, if he's just an asshole like that, go to your local ER and explain to the ER doc. Do this when you're almost out - like when you're on your last or second-to-last day. If you're on the verge of w/d they'll take it a lot more seriously.

like everyone else on here has said, it varies with each individuals addiction, biological factors, etc. I recently came off about a 30-60 mg a day habit that lasted for about 2-3 months. The first day wasn't so bad. woke up that night with RLS. the 2nd day was by far the worst. Get some gatorade, soups...something to help with keeping you hydrated because no matter what your addiction, I think everyone on here will agree you'll be running to the bathroom a lot. Also, I found loperamide, 10-14 mg helped ease the symptoms during the worst part. I managed to get a benzo the night of the 2nd day and slept. By the third day I wasnt normal but was def better. The worst part will be the psychological. That was the 2nd time id gone the WDs. the first was with oxymorphone and that lasted shorter but was way more intense.

goodluck man, be happy with your decision to quit. itll help you out in the long run

thanx all

ill let y'all know

^ Why would you take 12mgs? You said you were taking 8mg and yet asking for advice/help ? Hmm. Excellent choice. I hope that, if you're actually serious about getting 'straightened out', that it works out for you. For real. You're really putting yourself in a horrible spot. Good luck.
