Teeth whitening

Nice one with the bolus advice.

I think you're taking it a bit too far with the teeth brushing personally - a scrape of your tongue, a brush of the teeth, followed by a concentrated saline solution gargle works wonders, using just natural products.

I think you're taking it a bit too far with the teeth brushing personally - a scrape of your tongue, a brush of the teeth, followed by a concentrated saline solution gargle works wonders, using just natural products.

I usually just brush and every few days I'll do an "intensive" treatment. I do think you should floss every 24 hours though.

My dental regimen is as follows.

Brush without any toothpaste. Then floss. Then rinse with 3% hydrogen peroxide diluted by 50% for 30 seconds or so. Then brush with a fluoride toothpaste. If you're not a fan of fluoride, then make sure your diet is high in minerals to compensate.

The peroxide will kill all bacteria along the gum line, and whiten teeth. Mouth washes have peroxide, but they also have alcohol which dries out the gums and causes recession.

Some people use baking soda for the first brush, but I find it too abrasive. If you have sensitive teeth, I don't recommend the peroxide every day because it will corrode your teeth.

If your teeth are soft or yellowish, then your diet is too high in acids and sugars. Bones (including teeth) are comprised of hydroxy-appetate, which is largely calcium and phosphorus. Eating more greens, especially kale, broccoli, romaine, and spinach, will increase the levels of these minerals in your blood, which in turn are secreted in saliva. This will make your teeth harder and shinier. Also very important - if you don't have regular exposure to sunlight, take 2,000 IU of vitamin D each day with food, and this will increase your body's calcium absorption.

You can also apply a topical application to harden teeth. Buy some organic kale and spinach. Take a piece of each and form it into a ball, then chew it in your mouth into a bolus. Pack this chewed bolus into cheeks, either along the upper teeth or lower teeth, and leave it in for as long as possible. Let the saliva fill your mouth and swish it around. If you have a night guard you wear to prevent grinding, you can even pack the veggies into the mouth guard for the night.

Yes, your teeth will look green until you rinse your mouth out, but the minerals in the veggies will help to mineralize your teeth. They'll feel hard after the treatment is done.

This is all stuff I do personally so I know it works!

Excellent advice

for awhile now ive been eating loads of greens etc. could do with drinking less coffee and tea at the moment, and also might go easier on the abasive toothpaste. been using it a bit too often,

Man from what my grandfather use to do in the army ya kno he would take his finger n dip it in some salt and rub that over his teeth. Said it it would make them whiter but idk cuz he aint got no teeth now. But, my mom does the same thing ya kno puts some salt on the toothbrush and her teeth are real white, so it looks legit.

Heres a link talking about the whole salt whitening method:

Shouldnt be done everyday tho cuz its not good, idk, id say every 3~5 days

I don't use whitening tooth pastes or strips, I use what all those have.

Hydrogen peroxide.

1 part water, 1 part hydrogen peroxide

Just the stuff u get in the the medicine isle, it will say 3-4% hydrogen peroxide on the back

it tastes like shit and foams up in your mouth, but you swish it in ur mouth or put it on your brush, and brush with it every 2 days, (it softens your enamel so don't do it a lot) and you'll see improvements. Make sure you don't rinse your mouth when ur done with it or drink anything for about 10 minutes.

I was a pack-a-day smoker, and cola/coffee drinker and always had pearly whites.

To avoid stain it is better to wash your mouth after every tea, coffee & brushing twice day after lunch & dinner can help you lot & keep avoiding sugar content like sweets, coffee to prevent yellowish teeth.

Is professional tooth whitening painful? I tried whitestrips the other day and it felt like my tooth was going to die by combustion if I didn't get that shit out of there right away. Couldn't finish, obviously. I have severe bruxism, and my previous dentist didn't treat it (used to ask if I ground, I would say no because I gnash anyways, I was still a kid or young teen I believe, they would leave it alone. Went to new dentist as adult and learned people grind in their sleep, and often aren't aware of daytime grinding as well, learned a little too late because the tops of my molars are translucent and almost exposed, use night guard now).

My teeth are also stained from 4 years of terrible oral hygiene when I was suffering through my sleeping problems (hard to brush after breakfast and before bed when neither ever comes on a fixed schedule), a lifetime of soda consumption (I quit 3 or 4 months back, only occasionally imbibing if I am eating at a restaurant, and never more than one a day), and 2 packs of cigarettes a day (would have quit had my college not been so steadfast in accepting my appeal, forcing me to go back a semester earlier than I had planned). I drink one or two cups of Cuban coffee a day to supplement my caffeine addiction. My teeth are actually a little whiter (or should I say, not as disgustingly yellow) from using Crest 3D White toothpaste, but I'd like to get them "white" white.

I'm kind of worried that with all my problems (did I mention opioid addiction?) I've dug myself into too deep a hole to get out of. I take great care of them now relative to me (brushing twice a day obviously, flossing at least once a week, preferably 2-3 times, Crest Pro-health fluoride mouthwash [alcohol free] 4 times a week, etc..). I'm hoping that having turned the corner on my dental care and the problems that can interrupt it that there is some hope for me, since I still have all my teeth and all that.

To get your teeth pearly white is actually super-easy. Most of the whitening products that cost heaps of money are based on either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, the latter breaking down into the former when used, and both being equally effective.

Hence just buy a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacist and use it as a mouth wash once every 3 days. Leave it in your mouth for 10 minutes and make sure you have enough in there to cover all your teeth completely.

From experience if you do this then after like 2 weeks your teeth will be looking awesome. Toooooo easy. Very happy I refused the $600 whitening option my dentist gave me and actually found a great solution for only a couple of bucks.

Also I tried baking soda which didn't do anything and is quite abrasive on your gums, so wouldn't recommend it. Peroxide is ALL you need. :D

How can you compare 3% to 15% that most in house whitening systems use? Not to mention the photodynamic effect of some specific lasers or "Smart whitening" that also breaks the covalent bonds of chromogens deep below the enamel surface that hydroxyl radicals cannot effect.

The free radicals produced by the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide aren't exactly soft tissue friendly either. I'd prefer then to stay on hard enamel tham have them washing over my gums.

^^ Yeah sure getting the dentist to do it for $600 would probably get a better result and would last longer, but when you can make your teeth white for $2 with no noticeable negative effects, why not? The only reason I use 3% instead of 15% is because I don't want to blast my gums away or make my teeth overly sensitive.

On the 3% hydrogen peroxide bottle one of the recommended usages is as a mouth-wash, so it's not as if you're doing something hella-naughty or dangerous to your oral health.

would you consider using the gels safe enough if careful to keep it off teh gums?

is there any merit to the idea that, after bleaching, the teeth will get stained easier and/or more deeply afterwards?

I use Signal whitening toothpaste and it's made a gigantic difference. I started seeing a difference after about two weeks and my teeth are completely white now. I'd really recommend that one :)

Apparently brushing your teeth with baking soda whitens them considerably but I wonder how good that actually is for them ...?

baking soda definitely seems to help ppl, but i'd wait on hearing busty's POV to be sure on safety. I just use generic toothpaste and alcohol rinse daily, and every couple weeks i'll do a couple sessions of the at-home hydrogen carbamide(sp?) gel stuff, works amazing but doesn't seem to last all that long.

i wouldn't doubt it works, but i certainly wouldn't want to be hitting my gums/tongue with peroxide like that. Hydrogen carbamide (which turns to peroxide when in your mouth) is the most common OTC whiten gel, and the idea is you put it on your teeth only, making it superior. The cost of the gel i get at walmart is soo low, and the product so effective, i don't have any need or want for something else (unless it were more permanent, but my understanding is that whitening your teeth will never be permanent, so TS on that i guess ;P )
/where the fuck is busty, he should be presiding over this thread..
