I know I'm new here, but you dog lovers may appreciate my lil' mutt.

Found her as a stray in a bad part of town, basically a ghetto, and after a month of trying to track down an owner she became my new dog. Her life definitely improved moving in with me. As difficult as raising/taming a dog like this can be, I feel like I saved her from an otherwise pretty unpleasant life. That makes it all worth it. I think she is half Pit Bull/ Unknown. I'd be curious to know what kind of combo you guys think she is.

aww thats a great story :D she's a cutieee!!<3

Thanks godlovesugly, i like your username! I love Slug and Atmosphere. His tracks can get me through those bad days. It's nice to have a rapper with an IQ too.

I've had a few dogs in my life, and Xena is by far the most loyal. When her separation anxiety was really bad she escaped the yard to come find me when I left for work. Mind you, just to get out of the yard she had to climb a 10' wire fence covered in Ivy.

30 minutes after I arrived at the office she was pawing at the front door of my work. Craziest thing is that I had never walked her from my home to the office (she had been driven once) and my office was like 2-3 miles away. I was shocked but also really sad. She must have been so stressed out during this whole adventure.

Since then, her separation anxiety has vastly improved, but I had to reinforce all my fencing in the mean time. She also has a big, 100lb black Labrador to play with at home now. I guess you could say both me and Xena have anxiety disorders hah.

I keep asking my friends up north why people live in such cold places and no one can give me an answer :P

I did VT for a year and although it was a beautiful state, I could never, EVER dream of living there again. I mean I'm about to make a trek to D.C. and I consider that a little chilly for my taste but that's doable. Negative weather is where I draw a big fat line =)

Keep warm.

oh man...

it was in the teens here when i had no heat,, the negatives, i dont think i would of made it.
dude, are you staying warm enough?!!? to be safe i mean?

can you freely open and close a fist>>?

Erik, here's my stray that I found in a bad part of town too:

He was a few weeks away from death in the first photo. You can't tell because of the fur but he was skin and bones, anaemic from all of the blood-sucking fleas, and sick... very sick. The second photo was taken about four months after I found him. I like to joke that he's the best $1,500 stray I've ever known :P All of that food and the vet bills sure do add up but they're so worth it! Anyway, I was just hanging out with some friends on a street corner and this dog comes running from down the street which was a bad area of town about eight or so blocks away. We started feeding him and he was so nice that I just couldn't bear to leave him out there. He had obviously never been in a car before, didn't understand what a mirror was, didn't know what windows were because he tried to jump through them, etc. He took a while to get used to having a home but now he's spoiled rotten and knows it!

Great story User Name. I have a lot of respect for people that rescue dogs. It's a shame that people will spend $3000 on a designer maltiepoo or whatever when there are so many dogs that are "homeless," most of whom will be put down if no one claims them.

I sympathize with the Vet bills. Xena had a stomach ulcer not so long ago and needed surgery. Not to mention a few trips to the Vet. ER in the middle of the night.

I think rescue dogs like yours and mine know that they've been saved and that makes their loyalty and the bond between you all the stronger. Enjoy your dog User Name, she looks happy!
