Opioids Tappentadol Abuse Not Working

As per my thread earlier last week on switching from MS Contin to Tapentadol/Nucynta which has now been actioned by my doctor. I take 2x100mg XR tablets per day. The XR time release is 12 hours.

Conversion to mg for mg for opiate equipotency is hard, because Tapentadol relies way more upon its Norepinephrine Re-uptake Inhibitor properties than it's opioid affinity. Although it does have some level of opioid affinity, it is considered to be very week... Tapentadol is based on the active metabolite of Tramadol, O-desmethyltramadol, which used to get me very high, some people hate Tramadol but I used to love it. Massive rush at ~600mg with slightly dissociative properties at that does, and was the best high I'd ever achieved. I felt in utopia, a state of euphoria, nirvana... out of this fucking world.

A dose converter for pain relief (but not opioid converter, because Tapentadol has so little opiate action) says that 100mg of MS Contin or 40mg Oxycodone is equivalent to 200mg XR Tapentadol (which used to get me high if i'd stay off of opiates for a week or so). So Instead of spacing out the 2x100mg Tapentadol XR doses I took 200mg in one go expecting to be equally high as 40mg of Oxycodon or 100mg of MS Contin... but nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Admittedly, it's a very new drug and the information on it is sparse/unreliable. But I was just expecting a big daddy version of Tramadol, and was genuinely so excited to try it. As I've said, I took the equivalent of 100mg MS Contin or 40mg of Oxycodone which would have usually got me high after a week's break but I felt nothing, I wouldn't even know I'd have taken it.

Tapentadol costs a bomb so I'm being quite conservative with them, but tomorrow I'm going to try a single 400mg XR dose, so equivalent to 200mg of MS Contin or 80mg of Oxycodone IR and see what happens.

On a side note, it's been pretty shit with the pain to be honest, which is disappointing. So not only is it not helping with pain, but I can't bump the dose every now and then for a happy hour.

Any advice?

RC Tapentadol used to get me a good high when I was opiate naive but now it does nothing so I guess you wont feel anything neither

Some time ago SWIM got fifteen pills of controlled release tapentadol 150 mg. pills. SWIM had a lot of tolerance because he had spent years taking methadone 140 mg. daily but as it was an unknown substance SWIM start with one pill and nothing happened. SWIM came to take escalating doses and after take a dose of 750 mg. with no opioid effect he thought of the immediate-release by manipulating the pills. SWIM even spray three pills to break the controlled-release and became the drug immediate-release but even so nothing happened.

I think that tapentadol is a not-getting high opioid such as loperamide and that tapentadol only works as analgesic. The soft codeine is better than tapentadol.

SWIM got a spanish drug called "Palexia retard" wich was 150 mg. controlled-release tapentadol pills.

Nucynta sucks.

I believe that the supposed concept behind Tapentadol is that binding an opiate with an SNRI, the pain relieving effects will become extended due to the SNRI.

I can offer two pieces of knowledge to this thread- what this drug does to those I've seen take it and what it did/does to me at different doses.

We are of course discussing brand name Nucynta.

This was originally prescribed close to when it came out to a friend of mine during the Oxycontin Reformulation period. I believe it replaced a prescribed Rx of 90 OC 10's and at first everyone was pissed. One of the junkies began smoking it compulsively... HIGHLY DISCOURAGING ALL FROM ATTEMPTING THIS.
No snorting, smoking, or shooting these stupid orange pills. I almost puked a few times.

It seems that having a 60mg/day habit of Oxycodone, eating one 75mg of Nucynta is no where near enough to take away withdrawal effects. If I'm seriously jonesing and Nucynta is all I have, taking 200mg will relieve 90% of my W/D and induce a warm, glowing chatty state that is actually VERY pleasurable. The main problem that stands out is that most addicts seem to immediately take more when they recognize they're enjoying any amount of anything. 300mg of Nucynta doesn't increase my miniature nod or help me become more chatty. It knocks me out. Cold. It also lowers the seizure threshold considerably due to the SNRI. I have had some frightful close calls.

Taking doses upwards of 2/300mg can be dangerous. Friends of mine have become incredibly confused; One became so overcome with long-lasting delirium he required hospitalization. The fact that it is not a "pure" or "clean" opiate can definitely bring on unpredictable effects. I would recommend against it. Weird thing is, if I was in full withdrawal from opiates and found 200mg in a drawer somewhere, I would certainly take 100 or 75mg at a time until I felt ok and consider it a Godsend.

However, 300mg of Nucynta feels a lot more heavy, dirty, and downright dangerous than its seemingly equivalent 60mg/oxycodone

Stay away unless you absolutely have no choice. In this case, approach and dose with due level of caution.

Having pains now for years. using codeine 100 every 2 weeks for long time lessens effect. Now prescribed tapentadol 50mg tabs, 2 tabs five times a day this not helping with pain much. Addiction to these tabs is high, low dose 100mg does nothing for that beloved high. I'm 6 weeks into these, 3 tabs at first was relaxing high but tolerance builds quickly.
That strong buzz comes from 5 tabs (250mg) but lasts only few hours. Drowsy, euphoric eye rolling high. Nice and clean with no bad mornings, Only 1 noticeable side effect was urinating with difficulty.

When i was opiate niave(ish) i would snort 400mg (painful as fuck). I would have the worst opiate side effects I'd ever encountered like naseau and occasionly this weird dsyphoria..but holy fuck ive never been higher, minus the time i OD'd on heroin...
