"Tan" MDPV Experiment

It's been the goal of many a drug user to turn the current supply of snow white MDPV Hcl into the fabled "tan" of the old days. Some speculate that this "tan" is just an oxidized MDPV. In an attempt to reproduce the oxidization process, I came up with a little experiment.

First, I made a small "pot" out of tinfoil. I dropped a little MDPV, probably about 100mg, into the center of the "pot". I then added about a half a capful of common 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) to the MDPV, and shook it around in the tinfoil to help it dissolve.

Held this mix over a candle. As expected, fizzing and boiling. The MDPV/H2O2 mix turns from a light gray to a butterscotch color, and in the crevices of the foil some solution evaporates and leaves a dark brown residue.

I keep boiling, at this point the Hydrogen Peroxide is almost gone, and a strong smell of potatoes is penetrating the air. Suddenly, an unexpected *whoosh* happens and the last of the H2O2 violently boils off, leaving a large spot of dark brown residue.

This stuff is dry and glass like, and I may need to dissolve it in acetone or water to remove it from the foil. The conversion to this brown glass appears to be pretty efficient, I didn't notice any extraordinary loss of product.

Remember, the dry product wasn't exposed to heat to further oxidation. Once the H2O2 evaporated I removed the foil from the flame and examined the crystals. No extended baking necessary.

Not too willing to bioassay, but if I do I will post a full experience report.

I tried to get some pictures of the result, but the tinfoil reflects the flash and the pictures come out blurry.

Some notes:

Do this outdoors. The potato smell is powerful and lingers throughout the house, even with the windows open.
This would probably be better to do with a flask and a hotplate, and perhaps a stronger solution of Hydrogen Peroxide.
The crystals/glass are very dark brown but definitely not black.

So, anyone else willing to try this and bioassay?

That sounds quite easy to do. If it works, please post back and tell us. Otherwise we'll all assume you died. I'm usually down for trying new things, but cooking MDPV and hydrogen peroxide on tin foil is a bit too much for me since I'm not willing to bet my life on my tinfoil chemistry skills.

Haha, my whole attempt here does reek of so much amatuer, unsafe, and frankly idiotic home experimentation. Still theres something worth investigating here I think, something that strums almost the same tunes as the stuffmonger hypothesis and the zamzam procedure. Eh, really debating a bioassay.

Interesting... might have been worthwhile assaying it while the peroxide was still there too, and it was a butterscotch color, but before it boiled off (i.e. so it doesn't stick to the foil).

Will have to try this next time I receive MDPV, and will do a bioassay if you haven't... I don't think this experiment has any real risks to it, it's only peroxide (and the amount of PV small enough that any byproducts like pyrrolidine will be in small quantities).

Nothing wrong with that at all. I'll happily be the second or third guinea pig. I've read most of stuffmonger's thread so it would be sweet if it could be done this easily.

any update on this?

i am very intrigued...where would i get hydrogen peroxide from though?

Congratulations, you're destroying your MDPV by doing this. It's likely oxidising off the pyrrolidine ring (smell of potatoes).

Bioassay would be unwise but my money's on it being inactive.

I'm closing this thread based on the fact that it has no harm reduction value, in fact, I'd say it goes against harm reduction.
