Stimulants Taking 30 mg adderall XR once every 12 hours? Is that too much?

Hey guys, I have a prescription for 30 mg of adderall XR but I really only take it when I need it for exams/essays because I don't like the crash and the lack of appetite and all that. I've never had to take adderall more than once every 24 hours or so. But I had an exam this morning and I have another one tomorrow and I need to be really focused today. Here's what I'm wondering, is it ok to keep taking another adderall XR every 12 hours (give or take) just for two days, instead of waiting the usual 24 hours? Yesterday I took one at 8 AM and then I waited until 10 PM and took another and stayed up all night studying. My exam was at 7 AM today so the 10 PM pill from last night covered me through the exam this morning. Right now I don't feel any different than the usual times when I take adderall, even though I took an extra 30 mg (I guess because it wasn't at one time). So when the 10 PM pill from last night wears off this late-morning, would it be safe for me to take another 30 mgs then and 12 hours later 30 mgs more? Maybe that was hard to understand, here's what I mean:

Wednesday:
8 AM 30 mg
10 PM 30 mg

Thursday:
10 AM 30 mg
11 PM 30 mg

Is something like this OK? And then when the last pill wears off around 11 AM on Friday morning, I'd be done with it for at least a little while. Thanks for your help and sorry if this was confusing.

If you need to function friday, I'd skip the 11pm tonight and get some sleep. I always find that. after 36-40 hours straight things start to get difficult and I'm too shot out.

Yeah, my exam is at 7:30 AM Friday so I figured I'd take an adderall at 10 AM this morning (that's an hour and a half from now where I live), work the whole day until I start coming down and then take the fourth and last one at around 11 PM so I could work all night and since the exam is so early Friday, I'd still be feeling the adderall during the exam. You think this would work or would even adderall not be able to counter that kind of sleep deprivation?

The adderall will keep you awake, but your mind and body will be quite drained. You'd, most likely, be functional enough for an exam, but sleep deprivation is a fickle bitch my friend.

After being awake for so long and then expecting to be on top of things for an exam is risky.
Unless the exam isn't that important.
You might be feeling ok when you sit down to take the exam, but with the sleep deprivation you might waste valuble time on a simple question that you would be able to answer in a tenth of the time.
When the "blank brain", from lack of sleep, comes into play it could make all those hours of study you put in null and void.
From my experience staying awake that long, and then writing an exam, I would spend 20 minutes answering a question that would normally take 2 minutes.

I would suggest that you skip the 11pm dose (and I know it is a bit late, but I would have skipped the morning dose as well).

Get at least 4 hours sleep and take the dose an hour or two before you go into the exam room.

Just my advice, and good luck I hope you do well.

If you dont mind me asking, does adderall help with your mood, ie depression, and how long have you been taking adderall?

Ive had rather positive results from all nighters with exams following. I find I am still in that studying/crank it out mode. As long as I FORCE myself to eat some good food like fresh fruits, drink plenty of water, and have some chelated magnesium I have no problem doing those all nighters. It just works well for me, lack of sleep is something that only brings creativity (unless we're talkin 3 days or more).

Whatever your schedule, MAKE SURE to get AT LEAST 7 hours of sleep and EAT! I know it's really hard but force food down (chase it with water that helps.) The effects will be so much better and your crash won't be so bad. IF you can, get chelated magnesium and take 200 mg on the come-up...100 mg on the peak.....and 3-400 on the comedown. This formula works for me everytime I never crash or miss sleep.

take whatever's needed to achieve the effects you are seeking while still maintaining an appetite and normal sleep schedule. I wouldn't take it at night, unless you have work to do and pull an all nighter. i also wouldn't do this every night, or you'll start experiencing the side effects commonly associated with heavy meth use.

Thanks for the help guys, it's definitely not going to be something I make a habit of but I have a lot of studying left so I think I'll have to be up tonight anyway. I guess my main worry was about taking the adderall every 12 hours instead of every 24 hours, but it's only for a 2 day period (yesterday and today).

Ok then hit those books and own that exam, there's no time for indecisiveness at this stage of the game.

Let us know how it went (the exam I mean).
;)

Yeah i'm interested to know, are you seeing spots and hearing voices yet? Nothing like a good old adderall binge to test the human body. Stretch, take vitamins, eat, drink water.. i hope.

that's a pretty hardcore schedule

The half life of amphetamuine is only 12 hours, so if you take more extended release amp every 12 hours you will pretty much have a constantly increasing blood concentration of amphetamine. It's probably not good to do it for more than a day...

Take a xanax like 4 bars you'll sleep like a baby and ace that exam

This is such pathetic advice and totally unrelated to the OP's question.
This is a Harm Reduction Forum, taking 8mg of alprazolam is not Harm Reduction in any form.
Think before you post again, and yes I am annoyed to see a post like this.
You don't want to start getting infractions against you.
