I realize that this doesn't relate to anything recent but i still felt it necessary to bring it back to the fore-front of people's thoughts.
As I gaze upon their radiant faces,
I realize what they see in their lives – themselves.
Only a day before, tragedy struck,
another pointless act of violence.
But when I see these people around me,
all I can think about is the justification for such catastrophical acts of rage.
The way these people around me treat those different from themselves.
It is as if, because of the way they look,
they find themselves to be better than someone else.
The shooters are not loners playing video games and watching movies.
They aren’t planning on killing their peers.
These “barbarous animals” don’t want to hurt the people they’ve grown up with.
They are trying to prove a point.
They sacrifice themselves in order to help people realize what they are doing to others.
But I see the martyr’s meaning isn’t getting across,
and I hope against hope that it doesn’t take more for these people to understand.
They continue with their lives,
walking the halls, forgetting what has happened because it didn’t get them.
But some day it may.
This doesn’t have to happen, they can change the future.
All they have to do is help a stranger,
but will they take the time?
