Tabacco, caffeine and drugs

I'm a moderate to heavy user of ciggerettes and caffeine, I want to know if these substances have an effect (positive or negative) on the effects of the 'medications' I use (Oxycontin, Xanax, Nitrazepam and occasionally codeine).

Caffeine lowers the effects of just about all of those, at least the Xanax and Nitrazepam.

^ yeah but only to a degree. xanax and oxy are pretty powerful so I doubt either of these 'weaker' stimulants will stop their effect much, maybe reduce the chance of you passing out.

I know people love to smoke on opiates, my mother was notorious for the burn holes in many a blanket/couch/matress as she would nod out with cigarette in hand. But yeah, caffeine doesn't really wind me up or take away from the anxiolysis I get for my Xanax. It is just caffeine, and hasn't effected the experiences I have had with opiates either. But, I can drink a cup of coffee and go right to bed, so I am fairly caffeine tolerant.

Alprazolam concentrations may be reduced by up to 50% in smokers compared to non-smokers.

The hydrocarbons from the cigarette smoke (not the nicotine!) induce the cytochrome enzymes 1A2 and 3A4, the latter being responsible for the breakdown of the alprazolam. inducing 3A4 will decrease the effect of the alprazolam and give you a lesser benzo buzz.

Okay, okay. If you're certain. But I know it won't taint the effects of the oxycodone. And caffeine won't with any I wouldn't think.

No, I understand. Coffee effects benzodiazepines for me but only because coffee really hits me. I notice the effects easily. I don't think this is for everyone. I'm not immune to the effects of coffee. In my experience cigarettes don't alter the buzz from benzos.
