The ethereal plains....
Prompted by this thread and a high curiosity about synaesthesia, I'm wondering if anyone knows of drugs which induce this? I've heard of LSD causing this, however generally in quite high doses.

I find synaesthesia very interesting - whether its drug induced, caused by an accident or due to some sort of pathophysiology - it's fascinating! =D

Additionally, if anyone could point me towards papers (peer-reviewed, pubmed, whatever) on the topic I would be extremely grateful! :)

The general trend seems to be that synaesthesia is most common with psychedelics with both decent 5ht1a and 2a agonism, and substituted tryptamine type h-bonding with those receptors.

the trypts seem to do it the most. however, ive noticed that brain chemistry plays a small role. i know people who have dosed much higher than me during trips together, and they have a nice light trip, whereas i am seeing my music in front of my, tasting colors and what not. LSD produced the most synthesia (sic) ive experienced, and 2ci did as well. most psychs do to be honest. but to what degree depends on your genes i believe. sorry to bring my personal experiences into the ADD.

i've had syneasthesia from high dose mda. i heard water from the shower in another room, i could picture the water streams as different colors rather than water. then i was able to taste the colors themselves. it was 3 different colors - red, green, and blue if i remember correctly, red tasted the most comforting.

Definitely had synaesthesia from high doses of LSD and mushrooms. Haven't really tried high doses of phenethylamines

I've had synaesthesia from psilocybine mushrooms and MDMA combined. Very powerful combination for me. I've also had some synaesthesia from high dose 2-CB. Someday soon i'll be hippyflipping again. hippyflipping is mushrooms and MDMA for clarification.

2C-E 15mg sublingual produced pulsing visuals with colours. After smoking enough cannabis to bring me to a mid-high (5/10) level when sober, the synaesthesia was pronounced. Colours for every instrument and vocal, pulsing with every beat, and then further, incredible visuals generated by eating meringue and chocolate, with patterns moving around my vision in sync with swirling food around my mouth.

I had an incredible blending of my senses a couple weeks ago on a 20mg dose of 2cb. My hearing vision and emotions were all blended and reacted together to outside stimulus. Listening to music was the most novel it has ever been.

a exteremely high dose of truffles had me going hardcore. complete darkroom with nothing but BoC on the surround sound. THe notes had flavor. and voices had color. I heard and saw the music all with eyes closed. It brung on feelings of nostalgia, and made me feel like i was in a different place in my life.

althouht ive been tough to believe ive had it since a child since it happens naturally, but shrooms mos def bring it on for me

Wow N.A.F! Very interesting post!

I am yet to really, fully experience synaesthesia (psychedelics aren't really my DOC) however I would really like to!

Keep the stories coming guys! :)

Having thought about it a bit I think I "kinda" had an experience.

Was on 2CE* (as well), in a club, and just couldn't get my mind off work, so everything I was thinking about (re work), I would see. I'm an engineer so I would think about what I do at work and it would somehow translate to visuals. Not very pleasant, quite annoying tbh! :\

* Hallucinogens really aren't my DOC, never really done anything majorly for me so tbh it was a stupid idea to take it at a club! Meh, live an learn! :)

Ayahuasca can give me CRAZY synaesthesia, beastie boys looked like a growing 3d "hyper cross" made of rose bushes.
Terence McKenna would often speak of this phenomena unqique to aya, even taking trips where he would just strike a little metal symbol in the dark to watch it's visualization.

Salvia ?

Doesn't Salvia have quite synaesthesia inducing properties, I know it did with me.

I am so fascinated by synaesthesia. David Eagleman has written some interesting things about it (although not specifically drug-induced) which can be found here.

I have only experienced it once, on an (accidental) combination of mescaline and 2C-I. Music was irridescent teardrops coming out of speakers, and a bass kick was a wave of purple..

I don't recall synaesthesia for me when using salvia (5x and 10x). Mainly a vicious pulling and tugging feeling with hallucinations, especially strong with closed eyes, with whatever music/TV is on becoming "my world."

I do get some synaesthesia from certain strains of cannabis believe it or not, especially at higher dosages. Touch or taste correlating with music or colors or visuals to some extent, it's pretty cool. I love it.
