Swallow.
by Rewired
You open up your mind and speak to me
as I surf on the waves of your voice
the melody between you and me is enticing
sinking in the invisible arms of this trust.
And I’m hungry, and I’m thirsty;
and I take a bite and take a sip,
but you hold me back before I drink the ocean
you hold me back before I swallow you whole.
You open up your heart and you cry to me
as I fall down the waterfall of our tears
the dreary death that awaits beyond the door is gripping
I am strangled by the inevitable; choked by this pain.
And it’s hungry, and it’s thirsty;
and it takes a bite and takes a sip,
but we held it back before it drank our ocean
we held it back before it swallowed us whole.
You open up your soul on a message you gave me
I am stricken by what you try to communicate
perhaps a truth lying behind so many moments
confused as what had lied behind those eyes.
And you were hungry, and you were thirsty
and you’d taken a bite and taken a sip,
but I’d held you back before you drank the ocean;
I’d held you back before you swallowed me whole.
You open up your legs and you ask me
my yes sets me sailing on the ocean of our passionate dance
the harmony between you and I is so enlightening
your legs grip my waist; I sink into this, entranced.
And we’re hungry, and we’re thirsty
and we’d taken bites and taken sips,
and now we drink of the ocean;
and now we swallow each other whole.
You close the door and in the distance you scream at me
to face the facts and give into the disease
to accept the suffering and face the inevitable
to grin and bear it and fall to my knees.
I’m hurt, and I’m angry;
so take a bite and take a sip,
the ocean’s piss and I can’t pretend it’s wine
I chew on you religiously and I still can’t swallow.
