suspicious "mdma" - black marquis?

A long time lurking, first time posting!

Quick background:

I am an experienced mdma (ab)user, with many many many experiences of high dose good quality mdma in all its forms over the last 6 years or so. Recently my usage has cut down dramatically and I have taken mdma no more than 3 times in the last year so my tolerance is low, and most definately have not "lost the magic".

I recently bought some mdma from a friend in the North West UK region. It was marquis tested to deep purple/black, has greyish/brownish tinged transparent crystal appearance, stinks of aniseed (this means nothing I know but recent high dose mdma pills had exact same smell) and has that joyous sucking on a lemon reaction to taste. All in all I was pretty much convinced and didn't mind shelling out the very high asking price.

Last night I dropped a small (~100mg) bomb and, to cut a long story short, the resulting effects were akin to those of a mild piperazine mix - I have been unlucky in the past and regrettably had some very nasty experiences on high doses of this despicable substance.

So today I tested these again with my own marquis. The results obtained from various samples of the substance were the same:

1-2 seconds: Fizzing and bubbling to a very dark brown, then almost instantly
2-5 seconds: no more fizzing, deep dark purple to thick inky black
5-10 seconds: all reagent turned dark inky black, dark purple/blue tinge around the edges
10-60+ seconds: remains black in centre, lighter blue tinge around the edges.
20+ minutes: The marquis reaction has remained as before.

This is very puzzling for me as the result would indicate mdxx substance present however the effects on my body tell me otherwise. The immediate reaction of fizzing and bubbling to dark brown is suspect, however this instantly transforms to a strong positive MDXX reaction.

Is it possible that there is a way of fooling the marquis reagent to produce a strong mdXX reaction even though the substance contains trace or no mdxx material?

Could it be a dodgy or incomplete synthesis?

Could adding sassafras/safrole/similar oil to the bunk material be responsible for the aniseed odour and positive marquis?

Any insight into this conundrum will be greatly appreciated.

If the imitations are getting this good them I might just have to pack in the towel!

What did the powder look like? Describe it please. Color, texture, etc. Also, you say the powder was kind of like a lemon? Many people say piperazines taste sour. I once tested a capsule that I was suspect contained mostly piperazines and a low dose of mdma because it was mostly turquoise with mdma-colored greyish-tan spots. I tested it. Immediately it started to fizz, a second later it was yellow, another second brown, one more black. Took it anyway, and my suspicions were correct. it was a pipe. the bubbling/fizz is indicate of that. honestly, the capsules you got sound exacty like the one tested. by the way, you should ignore color change after 10 seconds.

Tastes really bitter, so much so that my face contorts as it does when you suck on a lemon- thats what i meant, it tastes legit. It stinks of aniseed.

Everything about it told me it was the real deal. However since consumed I am full of doubt, and the initial orange-dark brown fizz before complete black marquis raises further suspicion. But it turns black very quickly, almost instantly.

Could I have been fooled so convincingly? There is always the possibility it is real md and im just being ridiculously paranoid, but it just didnt seem right on the night - even at low dose (for me).

oh ok like my avatar lol ya thats how it should look when it's cleaned properly. looks mean shit though tbh. shit can easily be dyed or crushed into fine or chunky powder or anything really. Just like any other field tests, false positives are always possible from other substances causing a similar reaction, but are somewhat uncommon. just like urine drug screenings, field tests are subject to false positives, and the only way to be 100% is through laboratory GC/MS confirmation. If it "didn't feel right" like you describe, it may be MDA. do you have a robadope or simon's reagent to confirm? if it didn't feel like mdma to you, it probably wasn't honestly. The brown reactions are sightly strange too, indication of amphetamines.

I know MAPB can come as crystal, and would more than likely turn a similar color to MDMA on a test, but with some differences.

Granted i've never had MAPB, but I assume it to be a "different" yet similar version of MDMA as APB/APDB is to MDA?
