i'm coming off of about 150 mgs of oxycodone daily. i was prescribed tramadol for a knee injury and have been very pleasantly surprised that it has totally halted my WD's. they're not the worst they've ever been, but certainly enough to keep me in bed for a few days. i take (3) 50mg tramadol at about 6 am and i'm good for the rest of the day. for the next few days, i'll ween down to 2/day and eventually to 1/day.

anyone else had this experience?

I have used tramadol during times when I either run out of finances to get more opiates or when there are just none to be found. I too have a decent oxycodone tolerance and use tramadol in times when NOTHING else is available. I haven't had as much success as you seem to have had with treating withdrawal, however it certainly causes 'some' relief.

Perhaps it's that in w/d almost any sort of drug will at least cut a slice out of the anguish, be it a benzo, a mild opiate, or something like tramadol (SNRI). It makes sense though, as trams work as basically a combination opiate/SSRI drug, working on opiate receptors as well as serotonin and norepinephrine. It's not commonly used, but used often enough to treat opiate withdrawal (minor to moderate).

It talks about this in (the horrible/beautiful site) Wikipedia.

Anytime I used tramadol for hydrocodone wd's it would work wonders. I was taking between 150mg's to 200mg's of hydro and after 6 to 10 hours of dosing my last bit, I would begin the tramadol at 2 to 4 tablets at a time and that would knock out ANY wd's I would have experienced.

As time went on I finally decided that I preferred tramadol over hydrocodone because tram was cheaper, easier to get, and I liked the effects better.

As has been noted in several threads, tramadol does not work for everyone. But if you are one of the people for who it works, then you will enjoy it.
