Hello all,

I am sorry that I have not been able to produce a substance of the month for a long time. I have been on the verge of moving to finish my B.S. in Biochemistry. I decided to finish up at the University of West Florida because they have a Biochemistry program that is certified by the American Chemical Society. Although, nervous, I am also excited to be taking some challenging courses. In the fall I am taking Organic Chemistry III (Organic Spectroscopy and advanced Stereochemistry), Advanced Lab Techniques ( Hands On GC/MS, 300 MHz NMR, FT-IR, and UV/VIS), and the monster ; Physical Chemistry I. I have also been working full time in my lab studying Cysteine Biosynthesis in Soy Bean. This leads to the entire uptake of Sulfur in plants. I am most interested in the formation of a complex of enzymes, Serine Acetyl Transferase and O-AcetylSerine (Thiol) Lyase. These enzymes have a very unique relationship in that when SAT is in the complex it is an active enzyme, it makes O- AcetylSerine from Acetyl CoA and L-Serine. But when OASTL is in the complex it is completely inactive because the C-Terminus of SAT is stuck in the active site of OASTL.
Fun stuff, really!

Anyway, I wanted to get the Substance of the month back up for a while, and I think now is a great time. I was thinking of a relatively common drug that many people have heard of, but not main stream. But, in the psychedelic sector, I have noticed that we used up a lot of those! I believe many of you know what I think of Psychedelic Amphetamines, they are too powerful for people no matter how experienced they say they are to be handling. Because by giving access to the people that know what they are doing, you give access to kids and morons that should not be handling pure substances. This is a touchy subject, but that is my take. If there ever was a 5Ht2a interacting amphetamine that I would like to try it would be something from the TMA series. To me they seem to be this mysterious force out there that many people have heard of, but not very many people are acquainted with. They are on the same shelf as 2C-P, not so high that you will never be able to reach, but just high enough so that you kind of have to strain to get it down. Maybe it is the allure that it is (now adays anyway) hard to find, what you cannot get is what you want. Maybe there is really something magical about the TMAs, and what I have been told is true.

For now, anyway, I guess the closest I'm going to be able to reach, even on the tippiest of tippy toes, is going to be on the pages of PIHKAL, in the volumes of Erowid, and in the server here at Bluelight. So what I have done is found all I can on anything from the TMA series. I would like to include any pharmacological discussion in here too. I would like to learn a little about the SARs of the psychedelic amphetamines. How does adding that stupid methyl group on the side chain reduce the dose by so much. Mescaline is +++ active in the hundreds of milligrams, TMA-2, on the other hand is active in the 30mg range. Its also funny that you dont see that much increase in potency with any of the other transformations to the Amphetamine version that I know of. So lets here it anything that we know of in the TMA family, personal experiences, info, coments, Rants/Raves. If you have a story or recent TR post it in here and Ill add it to the main forum later.

I think we all feel this way sometimes. When life becomes too much we want to just wish our selves away to our own private shell. But the sad fact is we are never in complete control, life makes unexpected u-turns, banks, and dives. I think we should resist the urge to hide away, because when you are alone, absolutely alone, what exactly do we control?

Congrats on the academic progress, bro'. I'll shortly be sending down about two dozen fine powders of varying colors for spectroscopic analysis. ;)

I've always found the TMA series fascinating. In fact, TMA-2 (the molecule you've kindly pictured) is the structural starting point for the spectacular DO-x series-- the "DO" standing for the "desoxy" process of removing the 4-methoxy group and sticking something else on there. Like a methyl or a chloride or an Aunt Ethyl. :)

BTW, anyone know where I can get....OK, OK, I'll stop! :p
 
^ British customs took mine :X & sent me a nice letter 8) ( obviously to a proxy addy) suggesting I come collect my property. You have my blessing to go and collect it & keep it if you wish.;) There was a tiny cornucopia of things as I recall :)

It's one of those I've never actively sought & because of that I've never encountered (wouldn't say no if the opportunity did arise though!). Sort of danced all around that area (DOM, mescaline, MMDA etc), but never landed on that spot. I imagine they'd be worthwhile though
 
My condolence B9. You would think UK customs would have more nationally important fish to fry at this time.

Likewise Mr F+B. The lure is there and I wouldn't turn it down, but it appears just out of reach. Perhaps that is for the good. Always love reading the reports.
 
I once had a friendly German relieve me of some very expensive schnitzels with the promise of barter for one of these divine substances...needless to say, in my great enthusiasm I was conned... :X

i still have to find this yummy little stuff somewhere i'll ask my local corner drug dealer next time I see him whether he has any TMA-2..

Does anyone know if the other TMA series other than than 2 and 6 are active? From Pihkal they seem to be inactive. I have found no TRs on them either, any info?

Also has TMA-2 or 6 been cited in the literature to anyone's knowlege? Binding Assays, or activity studies?
 
^^^^ Well, it's gonna be tricky finding out because a Google search usually results in a black monolith surrounded by guys in spacesuits... ;)
 
I got to try TMA-6 once... unfortunately it wasn't a fully active dose. Either that or my tolerance was too high at the time (it was during my infamous period of multiple trips per week). It was a nice experience but not enough to write a report about. I remember that it was very physically pleasant. Not surprisingly, it was similar to mescaline, but with a different feel. I felt loving but a bit detached. Colors seemed to bleed together rather than stand out, but they were also enhanced aesthetically similarly to mescaline... they seemed to glow. The most striking effect at that level of dosage (a strong +1 to weak +2) was that things caused lasting afterimages in my vision, which caused a peculiar form of trails.

I wish I had saved it for a better time, like now. :X Alas, I wish that about a lot of substances.

I've used TMA-6. It was probably the most purely fun drug I've ever used. It had the joy, warmth, and stimulation of mescaline but very little emotional depth--in fact I found myself acting quite flippantly, in a comic kind of way. The one exception to this shallow disposition was in laughing--which seemed to jiggle my body straight through to my spine, and felt extremely satisfying. Like a stretch or one of those really deep breaths I sometimes take while yawning. In short, pretty much what Xorkoth was describing, but more intense. I think that one and only dose was at 55mg. I highly recommend it for non-committal fun.
 
TMA-2 is one of my favourite psychedelics - in fact, along with the closely-related 2C-D, it is the best phenethylamine. To me, it really feels just like a long-lasting 2C-D.

Awesome work w/ your studies man, it sounds like you have your future under full control.. and even better that it's for SCIENCE :D

Still haven' tried TMA-2 but want to badly. TMA-6 sounds uninteresting and inferior so I can skip that one.
