***Supplements & Herbs Questions and Answers***

I work in alternative medecine. Energy work, massage therapy etc

Oh that's excellent! I've always aspired for that line of work, but realistically don't know where to begin. I would love to open my own healing practice at some point in life....always felt that as a calling of mine.

How did you go about integrating into the world of alternative therapy?

SJW only has a few side effects (photosensitivity, slight anxiety)
and i (a male) dont plan on going on birth control hahahah :\

What brand do you recommend?
I've tried it before but was nonplussed with it's seemingly minimal effects, however I have heard a lot of good things (despite also hearing it's selective efficacy for some and not for others)...

Sell it to me, baby...

just out of curiousity if someone were to go out and pick up some weight loss product like a thermogenic, wouldnt they just gain back all and then some of the weight after they stopped taking the product?

i was in GNC today and some lady wanted to start losing weight so she bought hydroxycut or some shit and i got the idea that she'd come back in a month after she stopped taking it 10lbs heavier.

or would they just stay at the weight that they lost (if they kept the same diet/exersize routine ((same amount of calories in v. calories out))
im just curious cause i was gonna go buy this thermogenic product sos i cant has a six-pack for this summer:D but i dont wanna fuck up my metabolism in the long-run.

and dont critisize me about getting a jump-start on my diet haha :) im eating so much healthier, i just want a jumpstart on my 6-pack which i ALMOST have :p

'thermogenics' don't have any inherent properties that would boost weight*gain* upon cessation.
that said, they're garbage IMO, whose best usage is as an energy booster. i'd stick with caffeine pills here :)
(and for me, they do mess with anxiety/depression, so keep that in mind. also, their efficacy is minimal, at best)

^well thats really all i need is the energy imo.
and the product that im looking at contains 5HTP so it might help with my moods but ya never know. the ingredients all look very legit and safe.

but just to clarify, after stopping the product (if i decide to take it) i wont gain more weight than before i started right? because im already losing weight with my current food/exersize regime but im not losing it fast enough haha.

thanks for the help btw:) much appreciated.

Great to hear :) I hope you get started some day! :)

When i was younger, i used to have odd symptoms that i did not have any answers to. A really strong intuition, hot hands (temperature wise) and i would get heat waves in my chest oftenly for a period of a year i think... I didn't really know anything about massage or alternative therapy, I did do martial arts for over 10years and know the concepts of Ki (energy) and so on, but never played with it or knew how to - except for applying it while i was training. Since i was a kid i've had the ability to sense others feelings, and i discovered a year ago it is called "eye gazing". check it out! it's pretty neat :) it's an old "soul searching\reading" technique.

one day this older woman became my new neighbor and when i met her, i felt her hands were like mine and had a feeling we were the same... so we talked and it started like that! I then discovered my hands "knew" what to do and where to go to heal but it was unconscious, it would only happen in a trance-like state or deep focus. As soon as i would snap out or be distracted, i would forget what i was doing... She is actually a Shaman, which many things she can do i don't understand since it isn't part of my gifts... the things she tells are pretty amazing!

From then, i met some people in this world, talked, started to learn Reiki which opened the door to everything... and that is how i discovered my gift :) and i am still learning about my self and this world!

out of all the supplements ive ever taken, which is quite a lot, omega 3 has been the most profound and given me the best noticeable effects. just a random bit of info i thought i would share

you *could* gain more weight after stopping, just as you could continue to lose weight, it'd depend on your calorie balance just like it did b4 the pills. the fact that you used diet pills last month will have no bearing on weight changes this month :P

Errday

Multivitamin
Milk Thistle
NAC
Omega 3
Evening Primrose
Garlic

Now and then

Ginseng
Melatonin

nooope.
Alright im fairly certain i asked about this earlier,
but im far too high to go searching throug all four pages to see if i did.

So i got put on Effexor about a week ago, (37.5mg XR), and im still feeling completely depressed.
i know antidepressants dont work ASAP but is there anything i could take to make me feel better? (omega 3, etc)

im already working out 4-6x/week and im trying to get my diet under control but i still feel like shit and end up binge eating.

could you be overtraining by any chance? binge-eating will make the threshold to overtrain higher - if you eat/sleep like shit, it's far easier to overtrain compared to a body that's operating closer to its proper efficiency. that said, binge-eating isn't to good for making yourself feel better IME, unless it's "controlled" binge-eating (kinda like what I do; essentially, i try to eat as much as possible any time i eat, although this is PURELY for training reasons, both the volume of training and my high metabolism make that a requisite for me to perform).
how's your sleep? how's your life, *relative* to what you're used to? shit-sleep and higher levels of stress are enough to make anyone feel bad.
getting sleep/diet/life in-line is requisite before even considering supplements; supplementation (OTC stuff - pharms are a different subject for a different thread) isn't remotely capable of compensating for basic life stuff being outta line. once things are going swimmingly on those fronts, you'd probably want to try fish oil to feel a tad better in general. you'd want fish oil even if those were outta line, but it'd be more for increasing nutrition than trying to feel a lil better.
if you elaborate on how it is that you feel like shit, i could go a lil further. for example, if you're tense you may wanna try magnesium; if you're weak you should probably give a detailed food/sleep clarification to see if there's something to be tweaked there (binging doesn't automatically translate to getting the potential benefits of what you've taken), or perhaps including caffeine would help (could hurt if anxiety or sleep is something that's not going well).
/are you taking those diet pills right now? i know that if i feel shitty-in-general, caffeinated anything is detrimental, and it's a safe bet that a diet pill has normal to large amounts of caffeine; when added to daily coffee/soda that many consume, the levels can add up quickly. that messes w/ me by making me feel 'off' when i'm on the caffeine, feel tired/wd'ish when not on the caffeine, and it messes w/ my sleep which further contributes to the whole mess and tends to create a nasty cycle (admittedly, i'm pretty sensitive to caffeine. if i have coffee for like 4 or 5 days in a row, the following day i'll feel tired the entire day if i don't have coffee, and if i do have coffee it no longer makes me feel awake, just 'normal'. if i continue to consume it for another 5-10 days it's basically a part of my routine, doesn't do anything noticeable wrt energy, but does make me feel far less normal than times when i'm consuming no caffeine whatsoever)

Gotu Kola and anxiety

Ordered some, so going to see how that goes in tea form for anxiety. I have seen that it seems to have an effect on anxiety, from what the anecdotal reports of various posts on differen't forums from people so I guess I'm just seeing what people reckon about this herb. I don't want to be using it alot with regards to the cancer stuff but it would be nice to have something natural for my anxiety as I am coming off clonazepam and starting Lyrica, I would like to be on no drugs but at the moment that isn't really an option.

Any personal expiriences with this herb and also anyone used it for anxiety also?

Levodopa - Usefulness?

I've been reading that this can be a useful supplement post drug use.
Seems that it's the Dopamine version of 5HTP? I don't really bother with 5HTP since I the only serotogenic drug I take is Fluoxetine 40mgs daily.

I'd like to know whether anyone knows anything about the following things...
  • Can it be neurotoxic?
  • What's its legal status in the UK?
  • Is it available in pharmacies/health food shops in the UK?
  • Does it have any unpleasant side effects?
  • Does it have any noticable positive effects?

I've also come across something called Dopa Macuna, is this the same thing?

I'd be interested to hear some reports on this herb as well, it also comes in capsules too correct? Coincidently I was just reading about Gotu kola earlier today and after reading that it has anxiolytic properties I kinda wanna make a purchase and see how it goes.

Any luck scantraxx?
