superman lies bleeding
his body slumped on the river bank
red and blue against the snow
i have killed him
plucked a long sharp shard of kryptonite
grown solid over many lonely nights
and struck it deep into his heart
cut the curl from his hair
{the curl the girls would love to kiss}
let it run downstream with his bright red cape
watched it move and creep over the rocks
goodbye, to you
but as each thin snowflake landed gently on his face
i watched the light slowly fade from my eyes
with my last breath i mouthed WHY?
and as his tears hit my cheeks my mortal killer answered:
i cannot be you any more
i have lost so much in saving others
when i should have been saving myself
this pain has consumed me
and what little strength i have
i must use to walk away
the hero must die
just an ordinary man can remain
and this plain plastic man must learn
that he has to be enough
