Yep Pleonastic, that's pretty much the way I do it, and anyone with any common sense would do it too... unless a post/thread is extremely offensive or completely useless, then it's edited but left there to still be seen.
People really shouldn't delete their own posts after they've been replied to either, because that only leads to confusion

i do respect your view/s totally!
sorry i just had to play around because ive been over and over and over.Who why what where,about Moving deleting editing etc,posts!
so now that i can be bothered!
if i was to close a post.I always leave a message saying that i will delete or close and wait for a response!
and ive always gotten a responce!
any posts i have deleted have been after i have had a response!!!( and it been like 2 thread ive edited or deleted!)
and they/that was deleted i did because i dont want newbies or lurkers having to read some crap!
sorry people i just cant be bothered explaining something a moderator does again!

and post like a so called "normal" Bluelighter status.
Show that a moderator isnt always here to pick out bad shit move post and add usefull links!!!

I've started a thread over in the social forum to thrash this out a bit more. I know you're sick of talking about it but I think a lot of other bluelighters would really like to have a say..
If people aren't interested in talking about what mods should and shouldn't be doing then I guess they won't read the thread. It can't hurt. If no-one replies to it then I guess it's a non-issue
