I am having a problem while attempting to inject. When I pull back on the plunger when it is under my skin (or in the vein) if I let it go it goes back down. Usually it stays where I left it. Also when I take it out a little blood squirts in the syringe. I am leaving air in the syringe. I have been waiting a week for this night and I am pissed. Please help!

i believe it's the air pushing it back down, and also i think you're supposed to suck a lil blood up into the syringe

It's getting sucked down, and yea that's the idea to get the blood in the syringe. I just went to CVS and got better syringes the Walgreens brand are shit. It cost me a missed shot in both arms.

did u flick the syringe to get rid of the bubbles then push the plunger so a tiny bit of liquid comes out so u know u got all the air out?

im confused why it would do that

the shitty ones automatically go right back down when you pull them up, but some do anyways. kinda tricky, but it's good to hold it up and out while fishing for blood. but that's a difficult technique for a newbie

I thought that too. I was using Walgreens brand because the CVS was out of the size I use (1 cc, 8mm needle, 31G) and at first they were fine the plunger would stay were I left it. But tonight it started to retract. So I took a trip to CVS because I know there truck comes in today and I picked up my usuals BD ultra fine 1 cc, 8mm needle, 31G syringes, and the same problem happened. In the past with these it hasn't happened before. I do get all the air bubbles out by flicking it and squirt a little out, but lately I have been careful not to waste any product so I may have not pushed all the air out in fear of losing more product. Does that make sense? Anyone have any experience with this happening and figured out the cause? Also, any good syringes you recommended and where can I get a tourniquet in store and not online? A medical supply store perhaps? Thanks.

I always use Walgreens BD Brand 30 gauge 1/2 inch or 5/16 inch depending on where I plan to fish or what is next in the rotation. I am very particular about rotating and letting viens heal properly. I know exactly what you mean by not wanting to lose some of the product, sometimes no matter how I flick my rig there is always a tad bit hanging around the reservior next the needle. If you are pulling back on the rig and is it retracting to its original position without force you may be in an area of your body that facilitates this action. I know exactly what you mean, I have a lot of scar tissue from a previous miss + abcess + methacillin/vanomycin resistant staph aureus infection and if I inject anywhere within a 2-3 inch range of the crook in my left elbow (bicep, upper forearm) the rig will ALWAYS retract to its original position on its own. What will happen with me (never been a user of tourniquet and I have been IV'n for 4+ yrs, just use a space heater or warm water to wake them up, roll up my sleeve and knock on em a little to make sure they're home and ready to go) is I will position the needle, bevel down and steadily ensure that the position of my tip is constant and steady as possible, when I register I will get the usual fluff of crimson red, sometimes not (just a failure to register while the rig returns to its original position)... Either way it will always return to its original position when I inject in this area of my left arm, I will register, watch the blood and about 5 units of solution sort of "auto-inject" and will manually, albeit stable as possible, finish the plunging myself. Are you noticing this while trying to register in multiple places on different extremities? You are essentially creating a vacuum within the tissue you've placed the needle and if you are relatively skinny or have a higher precentage of muscle I could see this happening. Are you having a really hard time registering at ALL, ANYWHERE? If so my first guess would be dull tips but then again you've got brand new ones. Are the locations you're trying protruding for easy lineup/entry? I know I rambled and was not of much help in solving your issue but I can definately relate, having experienced the same thing myself. I wish you the best as I am sure you're fucking frustrated to all ends right now. If there is a will, there is a way.

P.S. with my g/f I have always used a rather thick, larger rubber band as a tourniquet for her. Cut so you have a long straightened band, place above the site you wish to use etc etc.

Good luck dude!

It always slides back down for me the first time I use the rig. The only time it ever stays on its own is if I'm using it after the first time. The plunger gets slightly stickier, which lets it stay in place. The plunger moving back down on its own is a sign that you're using a good, fresh rig. :P

It happens to me with both B&D and Reli-On brand insulin needles (Reli-On is the walmart brand, which I actually prefer to B&D). It's something you just have to get used to.

And as far as a tourniquet goes, either a normal belt held in the teeth or the waistband from a pair of (clean) boxers works well for me. The waistband is nice because it's basically just stretchy elastic, and helps veins pop up beautifully. Best of luck.
