Bupe Subutex and Suboxone

Can someone clear this up for me. Subutex and Suboxone are essentially the same drug aren't they? Subutex is rugby ball (or American football) shaped and Suboxone are sort of hexaganol shaped.

Does one have something in it that stops a person taking opiates on top of it, and the other doesn't have that thing in it?

If so, which is which? I was drinking poppy pods earlier in the day and the effects have worn off now. I have a hexagonal shaped 8mg suboxone. Can I snort some of it or will it make me poorly.

Don't worry about me OD'ing. I am perfectly sober at the moment and I am only going to do a couple of mg. I just don't want to do it and feel like crap cause of the poppy drink in my system.

Shed some bluelight on the matter please. Thank you.

IME if you don't wait 24 hours after your last dose of a opioid to do bupe you will go into precipitated withdrawals which IMO are much worse than regular withdrawals

Thanks a lot for that. I probably would have risked it and just expected to feel a bit nauseous at the worst. I am definitely going to keep that pill in the draw for now then. I think I will just go make a big flask of poppy pod drink instead.

Suboxone contains buprenorphine + naloxone, whereas Subutex is just buprenorphine.

The naloxone is added to Suboxone to supposedly discourage injection, which in reality doesn't work. The claim by the manufacturer is that the naloxone in Suboxone is present in doses small enough to not do anything when taken orally, but if injected it will block the effects of the buprenorphine. But it actually doesn't, because buprenorphine has a higher binding affinity for receptors than naloxone.

There are also a number of rumours about Suboxone, many even believed by doctors, for example that the naloxone causes precipitated withdrawals if one uses opiates while on buprenorphine, which is not true.

Buprenorphine itself can cause precipitated withdrawals if someone is physiologically dependent on opioids and takes buprenorphine, unless they are already in full withdrawal. This occurs with both Suboxone and Subutex, it's the buprenorphine not the naloxone.

If someone is on buprenorphine and they take another opioid/opiate, the buprenorphine will block or partly block it (depending on the dose), but it will not send them into precipitated withdrawals.

If someone is not at all physiologically dependent on opioids but merely has some opioids in their system, then taking buprenorphine shouldn't cause precipitated withdrawals.

Like SD said, they are pretty much exactly the same, except they look different, and if you don't have insurance which will cover suboxone, that little addition of Naloxone is going to rack up the cost by at lest an extra hundred and fifty dollars. Basically, the whole thing is a sham IMO.

I'll second Swimingdancer, It's accurate from info from the clinic I got my suboxone from and experience taking it. Naloxone has no effect if taken orally, just there to discourage shooting. The precipitated withdrawal aspect of the drug seems a little over exaggerated. I started taking it 24hours after my last shot of dope, I was felling crappy when I took it but not in full blown withdrawals. Thirty minutes later I felt perfectly fine (not sick, not high) and went to work. Spent six months on it, it was almost impossible to get high on dope while I was on it. I slipped up a few times over the taperdown, even 24 hours after a sub dose, dope was pretty underwhelming.

I think it depends on the person. I was very physically addicted to h and I've taken 8mg bupe anywhere between 6-10hr after my last dose and felt great, even nodded the first day or two I was on it

True, I will change my post to say buprenorphine "can" instead of "will" cause precipitated withdrawals if taken by someone is physiologically dependent on opioids unless they are already in full withdrawal. It's different for different people.

It also depends if you have been on bup for a period of time versus just taking it once in while. I've noticed in my past if I've taken bup for a week or longer and then stop taking bup to use H again it takes a good 2-3 days for me to get good and high on dope. But if I just have to take a sub on an off day (no money or something) the wait is significantly less and is 18hrs up to 2 days. Just my personal exp. everyone is different.
