I read the phamplets, microprint and googled about. More people over the 'net say the w/d from suboxone is worse than the w/d from their opiod of choice mainly due to the long halflife. What scares me the most is those same people said if they had to do it over again, they would have chosen cold turkey route.

Can anyone chime in on the pro's and con's including which drug of choice they used it to treat?

I went cold turkey off of Suboxone, worked well for me. Not saying it will for everyone, to each their own. I was on suboxone for over a year 8mg a day, if you choose to go with it I would recommend try making it much shorter than that. The withdrawl may be longer from it but I still think its easier to get off of than opiates for the simple fact it stops getting you high fairly quickly after being on it. So your more so just quitting something your reliant on than quitting something your getting high off of and reliant on.

Personally I feel like its easier to kick dope if you go detox at a facility. Honestly though it really just depends how much you want to be off opiates. Assuming you are ready to get off them I would suggest you do as i said and check into a facility, I'm dealing with coming off 16 mgs of bupe a day for a couple years( before anyone says that's so much, and I'm a dumbass for taking that much I already know) and let me tell you its hell, I'm 3 weeks in and still dealing with some pretty bad physical symptoms, they are not as horrible as h but it last so long. When I had kicked dope I don't know how many times, it was almost always more
Intense but the real bad symptoms would be gone by day 6 or 7.

3 day taper. no longer then a week.. best way to use Suboxone.. just make sure you are really ready to quit cause its not gonna be easy but better then cold turkey

It saved MY LIFE. I think the trick to subs is the VERY forst few days your on it. I know people who take 3 (8mg strips) a day. now keep in mind I have been a IV drug user of opiates for that past 14 years, & I mean EVERYDAY!! (I might as well say needle junkie on opiates-I know that sounds TERRIBLE but the TRUTH is the TRUTH & YES I am TRULY ASHAMED of it) however I had an EXTREMELY HIGH tolerance rate. I was prescribed 150 30 mg roxis a day, 3 opana 10mg a day & valium as well. And my live in boyfriend went to the same Dr as I did & he also got 150 30mg roxi, 30 opana 10mg & he got xanaxs. now that is 300 roxi 30s for 2 people in 30 days & 180 opana 10s in a 30 day period & I SWEAR to yall that we would run out with 10 to 14 days of getting them (we got them 2 days apart from each other) & im only giving you an idea of how high my tolerance level was & how bad my addiction was. with that being said, when I started sub strips I was supposed to take 3 8mg strips a day (but I knew from doin them when we were out of opiates) that I would only need a small sliver of one strip. I would usuallt cut my sub strips intp 3 equal pieces. Now the first couple days when your a SEVERLY withdrawling & don't have subs built up in your system yet then take a half or a whole one but a day or so after it is built up in your system try cutting one strip in half for 2 days, then cut one into 3 pieces for a couple days then cut it into 4 pieces a day. Now how I done mine was: (after the frist week after it was in my system good) I would take a sliver ONLY when Id really have a BAD craving for pills cuz I literally DIDNT have ANY withdrawls while taking cubs the first week so I just cut myself to 1/4 slivers & that's only if like I said I had a craving, other than that Id didn't need them anymore. They were a safety net for me..As long as I had a strip in my nightstand drawer I NEVER even needed it. (my withdrawls were always WORSR at night-legs kicking & body flopping like a fish outta water, but my boyfriend would have wothdrawls worse during that day & he NEVER had leg kicks)so I basically was done with opiates & withdralws after 7 to 10 days. I promise this is MY TRUE STORY. So sorry I wrote such a LONg post but when you start talking about addiction & pills we tend to get carried away telling out story. So basically I think if you start off taking ALOT of subs in the beginning then of course your body will continue to need a lot of subs (same as methadone mgs with my experience) but if you ONLY take VERY little (enuf to keep u fro withdrawling) yor first week then I promise you wont need it after the frist week. Good luck I hope my VERY LONg story helps someone & again I, sorry about how long it is.........

I guess one of my biggest concerns is how this drug works, by that I mean, what will happen if you are involved in an accident or suffer a very painful or dangerous injury WHILE suboxone is in your system? Everything from emercency surgery to oral/dental operations?

Basically, if you get hurt and really need pain relief are you kinda screwed until you've been weened off subs or are there alternative medicines/anesthetics available to health care professionals like surgents that will not interfere with suboxone's mechanisms?

It depends on the dose you are on. I kept my dose under 3mg a day and never had any trouble breaking through it with heroin. I could see that being more of. Problem if your on like 24 mg a day or something absurd like that but there are things they could do for pain control. Ketamine comes to mind. Also in theory fentanyl outcompetes bupe at the receptor level so itshould work. The bet advice I can give you to avoid that problem is to keep your dose as low as possible. I was a IVheroinaddict for a couple years before I started sub and didn't need more than 2mg.

Overall sub maintenance saved my life. It wasn't successful at getting me off heroin but it did give me a back up plan for when I couldn't get heroin that wasn't illegal or ethically bad. Like instead of stealing to support my habit I would just pop a sub you know? So that aspect is good. The down side is that it is a difficult drug to get off of. The withdrawl is similar to heroin except it lasts a month followed by PAWS. Overall you need to decide if you are capable of detoxing and staying off the opiates now. If there is any chance you can do that I highly recommend trying. If you can't than sub is a smart plan.

Suboxone was far superior with craving control and the extended half-life eventually gave to me forgetting to take my doses and thus quitting before finishing the prescription out. I also appreciated the opiate antagonist that would cause illness if you were to crack from the pressure and use opiates. That deterrent was enough for me. I haven't touched any opiates since I was 18 and I'm 23 now. The real question is...do you have the sheer desire to get over this little bump in your life?

Don't dwell on what if and hypothetical situations. You want your life to be better and the utensils are there. You will be proud of yourself once your completely clean. I wish you best of luck mate!
