I had a very similar experience! When I was first put on suboxone I was told that it was not habit forming at all :/... Anyway when I ended up in an inpatient, I was taken off of it in three days, going from 8mg to 4mg to 2mg, then nothing. I too found that I felt remarkably better after about 15-20 days. I feel as though while the withdrawals for suboxone certainly do last very long depending on different variables, some of the withdrawal experience is definately affected by what you are expecting to feel.

And yeah, I forgot to mention gabapentin. That and lyrica can be godsends for opiate withdrawal.

(sorry if this has been asked/answered... I could not find anything about this specificially)

I am new here and I have been struggling with a heavy opioid addiction for the past 7-8 years now and I am really looking to get into a subutex program. I have tried the suboxone before and it just made me feel super queasy the whole time....the subutex on the other hand was a godsend! It took all my wds away and I was able to work and handle my "normal" life. Of course I was getting these from a friend and not a doctor, and when she went MIA I was back to my old pals (or pills). I have seen many suboxone doctors but none that offer subutex exclusively. I am afraid if I go in and ask for something specific they won't give it to me and in the years I have been struggling, the subutex is the only thing that has kept me straight for long amounts of time. I am also a heavy pot smoker which I would realllllly rather not have to give up to get into a sub program but I'm afraid they won't take me if I test positive for pot. I'm at my end with these pills and just want to get on subutex so I can begin my Masters program with no worries. Any insight from all of you knowledgeable wonderful people would be greatly appreciated!!
:) effy

I agree with Tommy regarding subtex being harder to get these days. I'm also one who has bad side effects with higher doses of suboxone so I have to go with 1-2 mg daily which keeps me well but doesn't take away the desire to get high. I was on MMT for 20+ yrs before the VA made me go to subs and they made it clear subtex was out of the question. If you want subtex make sure you don't admit to any IV use which was my problem since it was in my service records going back to Vietnam.

Testing positive for pot is a no no for most dr's... good luck in your quest

I have to take my hat off to you for kicking subs... Congrats!

IMO and experience not many make it long term who've been on ORT for 2yrs+. I was off everything for 5.5 yrs at one point but a kidney stone [morphine drip] , fired from job, fathers death, and divorce all within a year was "perfect storm" for my return to this nonsense. Also what you believe is likely to what you will get. Depending on your exit strategy...Opiate WD is mainly in your mind

i am shocked at how good i feel right now. its been about 4 or 5 days from 8mg right down to 0.5mg to 1mg a day! i feel so damn good, music is so much better, i am happier, feel more handsome, it goes on and on! i cant wait to be off this crap. i hope i NEVER return to opiates IF i do get off, which i think will happen very soon.
i
i just have to stay active, i was up at 5am this morning but instead of taking sub right away i hopped in the shower and grabbed some coffee, bike riding, and it helps me go a few more hours (or even a day) before i need to dose. when you just lie in bed, it creeps up QUICK.

thanks for all your help guys!

question which has possibly be answered but i can't find a response, so apologies in advance.

i'm not an opiate addict, i do oxy's very infrequently (once every few months at most) but lately i have been abusing suboxone (which i know everyone hates, but still). ok, so yesterday i managed to get my hands on 4x 20mg oxynorm instant release. snorted two last night, two this morning. i don't do it often enough to experience withdrawals. i snorted those last two at about 8am this morning, it's now 12:45pm. would it be safe for me to take a 2mg suboxone today or would i get precipitated withdrawals?

suboxone withdrawal

i been on 8mg for 2 years and i got my hands on some xanax, promethazine, clonidine, somas, and ibuprofen, how do you guys think i should dose these? and would these help me be able to function at work, i cant stop work and they wont let me detox at rehab. i also got some adderall incase i get tired from all these meds. let me know if this combo will work well, thanks! i also got a little bit of kratom too incase.

I think you should possibly try and utilize the xanax and soma alone first to see how that works. Or you could try and use the clonidine and promethazine at once.. Using all of those at once could potentially be a dangerous combo. Suboxone withdrawal is long lasting as you probably know due to its long half life so you could probably try both combinations and see which one makes you more comfortable.

I went to a detox once and they gave me flexiril (a muscle relaxer) and ativan (benzo) and since withdrawal raises your blood pressure so much it was a perfect combination to ease all the withdrawal symptoms for the most part, however it DID make me sleep for most of the day... the benzo, muscle relaxer combo makes you very drowsy from my experience, but works quite well. So if it was me, I would try using the soma and xanax combination and just start off with like one of each pill, and see how you feel. You should probably monitor your blood pressure while you do this, because it can be dangerous if it drops too low (and I specifically remember them monitoring my blood pressure closely when I was detoxing before being dosed 3 times a day for 5 days).

If what you take isn't enough just increase a little bit until you are using as little medication as possible to make the w/d symptoms subside - the adderall would probably be useful if you are at work and trying to deal with this, since you cant sleep all day. And plan B is obviously promethazine/clonidine combination which is the standard prescription if you were to go to a regular doctor and ask for medication to help with withdrawal. I dont know the dosages on that but I'm sure you can find it somewhere online.

Good Luck!

It's very unlikely you will get precipitated withdrawals. You didn't let on exactly how often you take buprenorphine, but if it's the only opioid you've been taking on a semi-frequent basis, than you shouldn't experience precipitated withdrawals from using a small ammount of oxycodone. Precipitated withdrawals can really only occur if you are physically Dependant on another opiate. When you are addicted to opiates, your brain creates extra opiate receptors which it expects in turn to be filled up with whatever narcotic you are using. So if someone who needs to take 300mg of oxycodone a day takes buprenorphine (be it suboxone OR subutex) say, three hours after their last dose of oxy, the bupe, like an antagonist, will tear the oxycodone off of those receptors, and throw the individual into intense withdrawal before the bupe takes ahold of those receptors.

Soo, if you're not Dependant on opiates, the worst thing I can imagine happening is that whatever residual effects you might be feeling from the oxycodone would end, and maybe you'd feel slight discomfort though I really doubt it.

On another note, you should be careful about using suboxone recreationally. Due to its long half life, it's possible to become physically addicted to bupe even if you only use a couple days a week. It takes approximately 12 days for the body to fully eliminate it from your system, so if you want to surely avoid a habit, I wouldn't take it more than once every other week.

yes, using suboxone once or twice a week can lead to some dependence/withdrawal.

suboxone should not be used recreationally as you may think it has cleared out your system but it hasn't even started to yet.

im sure this has been asked before but im on subutex and am recommending it to a friend who has an oxy problem to help him get off of them altogether. it works wonders for me so i thought hopefully it can work for him too...my question is this...he's scared of trying it due to the fact that he says he's allergic to morphine...would that really keep him from being able to take subs? im not sure how true his allergy is but he says he's allergic however i know for a fact he's fine taking oxycodone and hydrocodone. anywho...any help would be appreciated.

Buprenorphine is quite different from morphine, and because of that, it shouldn't interfere with his ability to use it.

Iv Suboxone vs Subutex thoughts & opinions ?

Who think Iv bupe is more euphoric then internasal ??

thanks a lot! sounds good, i had a feeling all those meds were too much, luckily i was on vacation i slept for like 3 days straight haha.

Ok, after a mere two weeks of being on Subutex, I'm finding it may not be for me. I was on Nucynta 50mg up to 6xs per day for chronic pain. It sucked. So, after a long story that isn't relevant to this question, I was put on the Tex. yay, no pain for that time. Less, the agony of an intestinal blockage. So, for the first time since being Rx this, yesterday the pain was back. I was rx'd 4mg twice daily. Admittedly, this chippie only took about .5-1mg twice a day.

Now, I want to kick it. I have Nucynta left over and some hydrocodone. What might be the best way to do this with the bupe being a partial antagonist? Any ideas?

Also, apart from Methadone what might be best for chronic pain as well as acute breakthrough pain for Trigeminal Neuralgia? I've already tried gabapentin, tramadol, tricyclics, lyrica, hydrocodone, tapentadol, etc.

The only time Bupe' worked as an okay analgesic was (in clinic) IM injection of buprenex (2 x .25mg's) I ask my pain specialist if it was available for (take home) No such luck...I never had good breakthrough meds' until oxycodone hcl. but I am not sure that would be best for nerve pain.
