Random Stupid things your parents said to you when you were young

Can't believe this classic hasn't been mentioned yet...

"BECAUSE I SAID SO"

It was hands down the worst. Mostly bc whatever she was saying and backed up with that made absolutely no friggin sense and she knew it, hence the defensive explanation. Not to mention my mother wasn't a good person nor a good mother, so to it is no wonder why even when I was young following her blindly "bc she said so," never sat right with me. lol I'm now a mother myself and never, not even once, have I used that line on principal.

Probably the dumbest was when my mom told me that I would "enjoy" grad school and it would be "easier" because I would be doing stuff I was interested in. Like yeah, grad school was all classes in my preferred major, but:

- grad school is just really fucking hard, period, especially in physics
- no matter how much you like pancakes, eating pancakes for three meals a day every day will get old and feel like work

My expectations going in to grad school were way out of step with reality and it took a long time to adjust. More generally, every single time my parents said one thing and my academic advisors said something else, the latter turned out to be right.

Of course when you have 30 same informations, birth death place of 400 different authors and persons not related to anything you'd ever need in your life is quite engima to learn it 10/10, at least 2/10 if you can to pass it.
