Boston (dbTechno) - Researchers have come out and stated that sugar is just as addictive as dangerous drugs such as cocaine and heroin.
The study was carried out by researchers at Princeton University on a lab rats to see how addictive sugar could be.
They were led by psychology professor Bart Hoebel as they tested the sugar on the rats.
What they found was that sugar had many addictive traits, similar to those seen with cocaine and heroin.
They have revealed from the study that sugar has the same type of impact on the brain as these other drugs.
Even if people understand the negative impact sugar can have on their body, the addiction does not allow them to resist it.
These urges are being seen now as a full-blown addiction, as it is a craving people develop further when they try to stay away from sugar longer.
What researchers also discovered was that when people are taken away from sugar after becoming addicted, they also experience withdrawal symptoms.
They can go into depression, have anxiety attacks, etc.
The study will be presented at the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology’s annual meeting in Arizona.
