I'm a college student at Eastern Kentucky University (no I'm not a hillbilly or redneck, I wear shoes, and have never slept with a cousin.) and I'm looking into studying abroad next summer.

My current major is Music with a minor in Anthropology. I'm looking into studying in Salzburg because they have a phenomenal summer music program. I'm also looking at London which doesn't have a music program but has some classes I need. Lastly I'm looking into Japan which also doesn't have a music program.

Personally I think Salzburg would be more rewarding academically but I think I would enjoy London or Japan more.

I'd like to go to London because of the music scene and also because i hear it's easy to travel to surrounding countries. Japan would be awesome because I love Japanese culture. And like i said Salzburg would be cool because i could study music.

What is your opinion on these countries? which has the best life for students, easy travel, cheap living, and easy girls would be a plus

You're asking for opinions so I'll give you mine. I would go with Salzburg because you said it would be the most rewarding academically.

I studied abroad one summer and it was the best decision I ever made in undergrad. It's called STUDY abroad for a reason. You're not doing it to party or try to get laid, you do it to broaden your academic horizons. If you want to party all summer you can do that in KY for a lot less money.

Go to Salzburg and get your learn on. If you want to listen to British music or fuck Japanese girls, you can do that the following summer.

haha I see what you are saying. I didn't mean that I was only trying to party. Academics are important. But this could be a once in a lifetime thing so I would like to enjoy every aspect I can.

Regardless, I think I've decided on Salzburg.

unless you are really interested in the academics, be serious with yourself and ask if it is better to save the money and travel on your own? that's what I did and was very happy that I could travel and experience cultures without having to worry about my studies.

I studied in NZ for a semester the beginning of this year. It was great...mostly because I had time to travel before classes started. Once school was on though, I was more or less tethered. I agree with the other poster who noted that you should consider it mainly an academic experience. You'll probably have to invest more time in school than normal because foreign unis are usually more rigorous and just different in general and take some getting used to. Of course you can take a light load of bullshit classes and then fuck off as much as possible, and I wouldn't necessarily discourage that either. Just keep in mind what you're going for and try to focus on that. And for sure DO study abroad, it's a sweet experience.

Whether you are going to study hard or just have fun, you should go! I studied abroad in Denmark (international business and economics program) which was supposed to be one of the hardest programs, and it was not difficult at all.

I got a lot more out of living in Europe for half a year than I did out of the class work. Its a great life experience and I'd recommend it to anyone thinking about studying abroad. Go to Salzburg!
