Students "DARED" To Learn about Drug Effects

Did most people have to go through DARE in elementary/middle school?

I went to schools in two different school districts during that time, and neither one of them had DARE. It always has seemed weird to me that this was the case, as it seems to be pretty ubiquitous.

Yes, as far as I know, most people have gotten at least a DARE lecture at least once. For me it was in 6th grade, and one of the most boring hours of my life. The only thing I remember about it was being able to hold the officer's gun, which was a pretty nice Glock actually--.40 caliber I think.

Speaking of DARE and that crap, you should look for the video on Youtube where some DEA or ATF agent is giving a lecture to students about the dangers of firearms and shoots himself in the leg...one of the funniest videos ever.

I don't really remember what they taught us in DARE, wish I kept some of the materials or listen in on what they are saying about marihuana. DARE worked on me, I followed the ideology up until and through out most of highschool. It has really only been the last 4-5 years that I have supported drug law reform. It was a high school presentation on drugs that was so terrrible that it started turning me in the direction of reform.

The one lie I do remember form DARE is the cop said that rat poison is commonly mixed into blunts so as to get higher.

Damien8787, no wonder Johnny can't read (or write). He's too busy absorbing propaganda in his D.A.R.E. classes.

BTW, if that was your paper, I'm sure your GED prep courses finally taught you how to manipulate the English language... ;)

"Questions such as how am I going to handle it when it's offered to me?"

Answer: Light that bitch up

lol seriously that article is hilarious.

Wow, just read up on this guy, I think I saw that clip where he said cannabis is now as addictive as crack because it is more potent 8) . How much do you bet he abuses prescription painkillers and or alcohol. Alot of these people suffer from ted haggardism, where they participate in the vice they so ardently oppose.

^^^^ Bravo! I take pride ingesting dangerous substances while wearing my DARE t-shirt...

Whenever I snort drugs, I do it off of my DARE plaque.
You have a DARE plaque? Fuck I better go look for mine and hang it up in my room. One DARE officer I knew was really a cool guy. This guy escaped from prison and he went to the man's house to look for him and his mother said that the guy was not in the house. Well they checked every single room and the DARE guy kicked the last closet open and the guy shot him with a shotgun and instantly killed him. Pretty fucked up, the escapee was then shot by the other cops and his mother was charged with murder.

However, the DARE officer I had was a douche bag and would go outside and light up a cigarette immediately after class was over. Fucking hypocrite.

ahh weak, i was thinking this was going to be about kids who did some experimenting with drugs to make sure all the BS they learned in dare was true. and if they were astute observers, they would realize 99% of DARE is scare tactics

"DARE plaque, DARE t-shirt"

That reminds me of the douche bags that get the black DARE plates for their car. They usually drive some sort of "rice rocket" and think its ironic 'cause they smoke pot. Guess they don't realize that part of the money spent on the plate goes towards the program.

DARE really does fail miserably. All it really did was fill my head with lies and then once i actually tried smoking pot to experiment for myself I thought "wow if they lied about pot, i wonder what else they lied about." After that I was set to experiment like crazy just to figure out what these drugs were really like.

btw I think my class (kids born in '84 or '85) were the first class to get DARE class every year from kindergarten through junior high.... I'd say it didn't work out too well IME.:p

same year, had it starting in 3rd...... all the way to junior high I blieve... at that point Iguess the think you either are gonna hit the joint or not when its passed at a party... but to be completely honest I didnt even know that marijuana, lsd, crack etc even existed until dare...... thanks for informing me of the good shit government funded programs!

and that potheads with dare shirt, stickers, and plates get harassed ten times more than everyday peeps....

My first dealer always wore his dare shirt in gym class, once he got caught though..... he stopped wearing the shirt lol...... well maybe he didnt, cause he got kicked out of my school lol..... :\ 8) 8o

Dude that's kind of depressing...no offense, but can't we just concentrate on how much of a waste DARE is?

LOL. Sounded like me in 4th grade. By the time I graduated DARE in 5th, I was smoking Newports and looking for weed and liquor all the time.

DARE is a complete failure. Naturally, children believe whatever they're told in the class. Then when they get a little older, they realize every thing they were told about drugs is a lie. This makes a kid wonder "should I trust anything a teacher or police officer says?" Naturally, the answer is no.

There have been numerous follow-up studies showing that DARE actually increased drug use vs. kids who didn't take the class. This is common knowledge though so I won't bother with a link.

I would think that by high school, teenage citizens would be subversive enough to boo the cunt off the podium.

Was there crowd control with tear-gas and M-16's, or did the principal warn all the seniors they would flunk out if there were any "negative" events? Cuz I know if that cocksucker had come to my high school senior year, he would have left covered in egg-goo. :D
