Mods- im not sure if this is ok in here feel free to move it. Well let me start off with a little backround info. im 20 yrs old and i am in healthy condition. i gym 5times a week and eat healthy. ive got a problem when it comes to my stomach, a have diarreah alot, along with bad stomach pains that sometimes dont allow me to finish out my day... ive had this problem for about a year and a half now.i have been to the doctor a few times and have taken multiple tests with no results. he now has me on an anti depressant AMITRIPTYLINE. he says it should harden up my stool but desnt seem to be very effective.

Now ive been studying fitness in school and im starting to think my problems are coming from stress. i have alot of the symptoms of stress: diarreah, muscle tighness, nail biting constantly, rashes and maybe more but im not certain of all of them. now i know benzos are good for stress but really dont want to get on them. But if it would help with my condition then i am willing to try. The doctor has had me on a few meds but none seem to work. maybe i should mention my excess stress and see what he thinks is a good idea. has anyone else out there had similar problems like this? and have you found a cure? thanks for any info

Have you tried keeping a diary or journal to record your feelings? Reflective writing can be very helpful in alleviating stress because the act of putting on paper what is in your head 'empties' your mind. It is also helpful to re-read older entries because you can then see how you dealt with a particularly stressful period and put that insight to future use.

Edit by Minxy:

Like most posts asking for advice on here I am tempted to say JUST LAY OFF THE FUKIN DRUGS!! They are more likely to make it worse or present some other problem for you to deal with. Laying off the drugs is easier said than done in some cases but surely a remedy designed to help alleviate stomach/fecal probs is better than Amytriptylene?

thanks for the reply, but my doc has put me on three prescriptions to alleviate my stomach problems and none has seemed to work, the amytriptylene is like the 5th prescription he has put me on and it still doesnt work. i am have a colonoscapy soon and hopefully that can detect what is wrong with me. but i do things that take away stress to like going to the gym, im sure that can be just as effective as keeping a diary. ill name a few of the past prescriptions he has gave me, he had me on align and that didnt do much and then on methscopolamine bromide and those had no effect either.

Maybe its possible you have something like lactose/gluten/wheat intolerance? These can cause stomach problems and give you the runs and cant really be found on tests. Only way to really test for this is an elimination diet. How many times are you passing stools a day?

^+1.. more than likely a late onset allergy/intolerance. I'd cut out all dairy and wheat for a week and see how your stomach is coping then.

For me, it was candida infection that was making me diarreah, gas, dry mouth, and skin problems. I took wrong turns here and there, but when discovered easily healed after taking antifungal drugs such as fluconazole(injected), and itraconazole(vial liquid) for two week straight.

Good luck.

I think this too!

I personally wouldn't want to be on an antidepressant for diarrhea unless your depressed/stressed and its working ? If it's helping your stress fair play otherwise I'm sure there's something more suitable that wont fuck up your brain chemistry.
