Location
Madison, Wisconsin USA
standing on a mountain top
snowy and cold, all alone
I scream out loud,my name
echoing back, a haunting refrain.

Who am I? Why am I here?
gone are those I hold dear.
Am I leaving as well?
Or am I already gone?

Was I ever really here?

I'm lost.
Lost withen myself
Lost in a barren dark forest.
All the trees look the same.
Dark,twisted and worn bare
Go find yourself, they say
escape the midnight forest.
But I don't know the way.
Nothing scary in the dark
you can't see the light of day.
Standing at a crossroads
wondering which way to turn.
Which path will lead back to me?
When I was alive and yearning
to be a better person, to know
all that Shelly could be.
So I stand here, two roads
no light, no help, no friends
when did I let others erode
who I used to be?
Am I proud of who I am?
I don't have any idea who
that girl is staring back at me.
Just a stranger looking in the mirror.

It took me a long time to find myself too. My vision of myself was so clouded by outside factors, and my mind was so manipulated into thinking I couldn't exist outside of the "us" that was me and my ex, that when we broke up, i didnt know who "i" was either. But years later, I know who I am, and who and where I want to be. And i've found that I create and shape that the "me" that i know.

So if you want to be a better person, you can be. You can be anything you want.

If we stare at ourselves in the mirror for long enough the person staring back will inevitably become a stranger.

Take pleasure in the small things... but don't dwell on the trivial. Perhaps if we all stopped analysing ourselves so much we'd get a chance to actually just grow into the person we're meant to be.

Then again, maybe I'm just being naive.

That's the absolute perfect thing to have said.
