strange results trying to extract methylphenidate

Okay, I tried this and something fucked up.
I used about 10 36mg Concerta pills, all very well crushed. Then I added 1 ounce of 50degree 91% rubbing alchohol. I let swirl and then filtered through some coffee filters. Noticed the alchohol was slightly syrupy. Let evap. and ended up with a thin, off colored film. When scraped up, it was stringy and very dry, and almost tan with no smell. I gave some to my friend who smoked it and said it kind of worked, but tasted like chemicals. What the fuck?

Concerta pills have two inside portions, if I remember correctly. Did you just crush the pills whole or did you scrape off the outer layers and only crush/dissolve/filter the inner methylphenidate portion?

Shit, I scraped off the white outside layer and the inner clear layer. Then I crushed up and mixed the brown and tan halves.

Does the residue smell like rubbing alcohol? Perhaps it just needs to dry out more.
