Strange Physical Side Effects of Psilocybin Mushrooms?

I've been experimenting with psilocybin lately and have noticed some weird physical side affects and was wondering if anyone else gets them and possible methods for dealing with them.

The weirdest one is probably the strange cramps. Whenever I stand up and walk, the muscles on my inner thighs seem to cramp up and stay so tight that it's very painful to walk. Does anyone else get this or know how to fix it? Is there like a supplement I can take that might help? It's pretty annoying because it makes it hard to swing poi or do much of anything.

Nausea is also a problem for me. I know it's really common, but I can't seem to shake it. Eating mushrooms straight makes me puke, so we've been putting them through a coffee grinder and mixing them into honey and powdered ginger. At least I don't puke this way, but my stomach still bothers me a lot when I do shrooms. Are there any other tricks besides making it into shroom honey, taking ginger, and smoking weed? I would really like to find a remedy to the nausea so I can really enjoy my trips.

Does anyone else get really intense yawns on shrooms? Like, mushrooms don't make me sleepy, they just make me yawn. xD Does anyone know the exact mechanism behind that? I'm really just curious.

I'm pretty sure you yawn because your brain is warming up from the psilocybin. MDMA and other drugs will have this same effect. Go to a rave, watch all the people around you yawning like crazy all night, it's not because they're tired! :)

Shrooms don't make me all THAT nauseous, but they do to a certain degree. I think it just goes with the territory. You could try eating a full meal before you eat the shrooms. They'll still work, they just might take longer to hit, however you may get no nausea.

I also notice I get some weird cramps here and there with mushrooms. My only guess is that it's simply a side effect of psilocybin, judging from the neurological pathways it's acting on. Serotonin regulates a lot of bodily funtions, so when you start messing with it, weird things will happen. I don't know about it actually being painful though. This might be an underlying condition.

All of these seem like pretty common side effects of mushrooms (and synthetic psilocybin and related chemicals). I have found that moving around will help leg cramps and muscle tension. You may feel weird and clumsy, but if you push through it you might feel better. My favorite mushroom experiences have been hiking or running around in nature.

With nausea, the number one thing that helps me is having an almost empty stomach before eating the mushrooms. And eating the mushrooms in the most condensed way possible. Mushroom chocolates do pretty well, and while a bit weaker I've had luck with mushroom tea. You might also try non-drowsy dramamine. It helps me with some of the more nauseating psychedelics. I do feel like it adds a weird low-level buzz to the trip though.

Some ssri's give people the yawns too, so it might be serotonin-related?

Try stretching your legs before/while you come up?

I don't really get nausea from them, but I hate eating them that's for sure. I usually put them thru the coffee grinder like you do and put them in size 00 gelcaps. Swallow 6+ and enjoy.

I've had extensive experience with both synthetic psilocin and over a dozen species of psilocin/psilocybin/etc mushrooms and the some of the effects you speak of are just inherent to the drug. Yawning and the stomach upset in particular........very serotonergic!

What kind of mushrooms are you eating? The differences between say P. cubensis and P. azurescens are much more dramatic than the varying alkaloids would suggest. P. cyanescens and P. azurescens in particular have such a strange muscle weakness effect, especially in higher doses. P. baeocystis is deep and visual, P. semilaceata is so much gigglier and light, great. Etc Etc.....I could go on and on. I know it sounds like hippy shit but the differences are undeniable! Try making a tea with your ground shrooms. Seems to reduce some of the side effects for a lot of people.

And speaking of, I just collected a big basket of azurescens, Boletus edulis, Hypomyces lactiflorum, and some Helvellas right next to the beach. Tis the season! Nom Nom NOM

Cheers

When i was a teenager i had access to a pretty much unlimited supply of cubensis and ate them 2 or 3 times a week for a few years to the
point where i was doing around 10-15 grams at a time, a dose i would never even think of doing now. Anyway i think i may have
developed a sensitivity to some metabolite in my perspiration because ever since i have what seems like an allergic skin reaction
(extreme itchiness and flushing) towards the end of the plateau phase. if i remember to shower before i start to come down it is greatly
reduced and if i shower again before bed it is almost unnoticeable. Unfortunately it seems to have caused a similar reaction to other
tryptamines as well, particularly dmt which gives me a really awful itchy burning sensation over my entire body, in fact the smoke burns
my lips before it even hits my brain which tells that for sure it is a physical reaction.
Anyway i don't know about leg cramps but i do know that to reduce nausea and stomach issues like cramps and farting later on BY FAR
the best way to ingest mushies is to make tea. There is a trick to making good mushroom tea though and if you don't do it right you will
waste your mushrooms and be very disappointed. here it is.
grind the mushies (if dried) as fine as possible in a coffee grinder or blender. If they are fresh put them in a blender with a bit of water
and puree them. get a pot of water boiling, about 1/3 of a cup per dose. add some vitamin C, in pill form or lemon or lime juice
(don't use orange it tastes awful when boiled) the reason for adding vitamin C is that it acts as an antioxidant and keeps the sillycybin
from being destroyed in the process. It doesn't take very much, half a lemon or one 500mg pill is plenty. When the water is boiling add
mushies and stir, boil one minute. no more no less. one minute of
boiling is needed to destroythe enzymes that degrade psilocybin in the presence of water and heat. after one minute turn off the flame andlet it sit for 10-15 minutes. strain through a piece of cloth (an old t-shirt works just make sure to wash out all the detergent residue) and
squeeze out as much liquid as possible. put the pulp back into the pot and bring almost to a boil with another 1/3 cup water per dose. steep 10 minutes, strain and squeeze again. repeat the process one more time, combine all the tea into one pot and serve one cup per dose. I
have made this tea for people all over the world for more than 20 years and it kicks ass every time.

Anyway sorry for such a long post but i hope this helps.

If you want to prevent the nausea try taking them with ginger or drink some ginger green tea, and avoid eating any food for about 5 hours before you take them.

Cramps: I get them too, in my calf muscles mostly. My least favorite thing about my favorite drug. I'll try eating more bananas between now and my next trip and see what that does for me. But I'm a tomato fiend so it might be a dead end for me.
Nausea: Not a problem for me, I make tea for people who get it though. How I do it: fill mug with water, nuke it till it boils, grind up their dose, add dose to water, stir, add tea bag (any is fine, the wife digs peach herbal), squeeze half a lemon in there, stir again, steep for a half hour or so, add sugar to taste, let shroom chunks sink, now drink. Don't worry about the shroom sludge in the bottom of the mug, if it bothers you, eat it, or filter with a coffee filter.
Yawns: Yep, can't escape those. Don't worry about 'em, it's an effect of shrooms

potassium prevents cramps. It's in bananas :D

^^ Magnesium really helps too, and it's easy to find magnesium supplements. I like taking it some a couple of hours before I trip, then some the next morning too :)

I can't say that I've experienced bad leg cramps, but I definitely feel restless and somewhat uncomfortable overall.

I haven't had much problem with nausea either. I usually eat a good healthy meal about 4 to 5 hours prior to ingesting, then drink plenty of water so I'm well hydrated. And I try to clear my bowels as much as possible prior to eating hem. The taste/texture doesn't really bother me much. I just put a bit of shrooms into my mouth & let them soften, then chew thoroughly & swallow. The key is a little at a time... 2g may take 30 minutes to eat. They're not bad, except maybe some of the really hard spots at the base of the stems. I've never tried making tea, maybe some day.

Yawning is another matter. I always yawn like crazy when shrooming. So it is.
