Heroin strange itch when injecting

So I recently begain IVing. Ive used percs/oxys off and on for the past few years then switched to H for financial reasons a few months back. Well I shot coke a few weeks ago and fell in love with needles. Now I've been IVing the H instead of snorting like i always have. Now im new to injecting and dont have anyone to shoot with but im pretty certain im doing it right. Heres my question i noticed when i shoot up my shoulder if which ever arm i hit itches really bad for about 10 seconds right before the rush hits me. Im worreid im doing something wrong and Im gonna hurt myself. Anyone have any input as to whats going on? Is it normal? Is it just the warm dope going through me 8(

Opiates produce strong histamine reactions, which is almost certainly what you're experiencing. I imagine that if you took an antihistamine 30 minutes before you plan to shoot your dope you won't experience as strong of an itching sensation.

I agree with Znegative. Because of the histamine reaction produced from opiates, you may experience itching as a side effect. Antihistamines (specifically diphenhydramine) seem to help with the itching sensation associated with opiate use if you take them before your dose. The Mega Threads are useful, when I was lurking I would always read them for answers to my questions.

thanks guys, its not that bad and like i said it only last about 10 seconds. i was just worried i was doing something wrong since im still new to IV. most what i learned it what i read online, i did get a hands on crash course but never had someone with experience watch me to it so every little thing makes me nervous. hopefully putting this all to an end soon anyway i cant continue living this way for long. i gotta try to get clean again

Im allergic to all kinds of shit and besides actual dope i can tell if there is dust, cuts, cat dander- very scary reaction to one time i had a cat hair in my water, i mean I itch and break out on the regular when i shoot. Benadryl or other antihistimines take those reactions away completely apart from the actual itch from the dope. As long as it doesn't burn and you don't have severe hives a lil itch isn't anything too bad.

This is true, but BE CAREFUL with that, because anti-histamines, especially the ones that work well, (diphenhydramine, for example) can make you drowsy. Maybe shoot up less if you are taking a first gen antihistamine. Just be careful !
