Strange experience - just discovered it's happened to other people; why? (DXM & Pot)

Advance apology as i think the writing is fairly incoherent throughout this post.. Sleep deprived and stoned.

So I was reading a post about mixing dxm and cannabis and the writer said that after smoking a j whilst on dxm he felt like his breathing was very short and forced, so much so that he had a panic attack. He also was convinced he was going to die.

After reading through the responses, i saw that someone else said that they had had a similar experience with dxm and weed and that during this experience, instead of subconsciously breathing, each breath had to be thought about and forced. He also thought he could've been in danger..
apparently since that time it's happened again only with a less frightening and intense experience.

Which is about exactly the same as me - The first time it happened I was convinced that I was going to die because if i fell asleep i wouldn't be able to keep myself breathing..? This happens pretty regularly now if i go to bed high but not as severely now that I know I won't die if i go to sleep :P it's just a very unpleasant sensation feeling as though you HAVE to force your breaths? Ah so hard to explain. Whatever.

Personally I'm just going to guess it's a regular panic attack. I've tried DXM 4 times, all with weed. If I start spewing (3/4 times), I'll find I can't breathe and start freaking out until I get a hold on myself and chill out.

Iv had some of my best experience while combining the two. 400-600mg + DXM is truly an interesting time.

and on topic, what is your dosage and what brand are you taking, there could be other active ingredients causing this...

I've heard this happening to other people on DXM, including myself.

It's just that DXM makes you so disconnected from your body, things such as breathing feel very alien, it usually doesn't occur unless you think about the process of breathing, just relax and chill, if anything cannabis should help it, I've never had anything scary happen on DXM, but I've been so fucked up on it I puked, but felt great.

I've also fell asleep on high doses and woke up pissed off that I slept through my trip, nothing more.

In my experience, when using dxm a tollerance quickly accumulates and much higher doses are needed to maintain a decent level. This leads to using it less frequently so as to reap the rewards of a greater high. the high ends up being fairly crap no matter what dose or how frequently i use even mounths apart. I used to think dxm was great 4 along time but now i think itz s**t. But hey each to there own, thats just my buzz. Do u sometimes get paronoid when u smoke without dxm? do u get paranoid using dxm without dope? good luck

dxm is fucking awesome.

the euphoria i used to get from dxm+weed was the best euphoria i ever got on drugs, i felt like i was in heaven.

nowadays it tends to make me paranoid unless i have a few drinks with it. it might be because i'm on antipsychotics.

i still love dxm alone though.

Breathings only semi-consciously controlled so I could see how if you smoked some weed while already on dxm you might start paying alot of attention to how strange breathing feels and then holy shit if I stop thinking about breathing I stop breathing for a second queue thought loop.

ah see forgot to mention in the first post - difference with my situation is that there's no DXM involved for me.

First time it happened to me I'd had a heap of pills (MDXX) and then went and got stoned afterwards. When I lay down my breathing felt short and my chest felt heavy. And ever since then every now and then going to bed stoned yields the same results. I am rational about it - It's happened countless times so I know I'll be fine it's more just irritating now - Like I can't draw my mind away from my breathing?
