Mental Health Straight up feel like I'm having a panic attack right now

<3 hey there Portal :)

Did anything happen prior that brought it on? Have you experienced this type of feeling before? Can you explain it?

<3 <3

I just have GAD and I believe Social Anxiety and it's just never been treated. I get panic attacks from time to time. I have an appointment to see a doctor on the 2nd of August and I'm probably going to tell them what's been going on. I felt like rushing to the hospital.

You say "felt".. So it' subsiding? Sounds like a panic attack to me love. <3 Happy to hear you're seeing a doctor on the 2nd. Be completely honestly with them, explain the symptoms, how they come on, when they come on. Hopefully you will get a knowledgable and understanding doctor that will help you. If you at anytime do not feel in control of your life or the medication they are prescribing you find another doctor.

My first trial with a doctor about my anxiety went very badly which almost threw out the entire idea of accepting a doctors help. They treated me like I was in a school lunch-line. In-and-out. Here's what you're getting come back in 30 days and tell me if it works.

Your doctor should give you time and allow you to understand what his/her advice and plan of action is and you should also agree to it.

^ I have to agree with you about being treated by doctors with anxiety. I don't know how many different substances I've tried for 30 days then come back to tell them that it didn't work. Eventually you will find a medication that works for you. Even then, medication may not be the best treatment for you. It takes time and a great doctor to properly treat anxiety.

Perhaps you could take something OTC until you receive proper medical treatment? I suggest L-Theanine for anxiety since it's a natural amino acid found in green tea. It actually helps with anxiety without causing tolerance/dependence.

Have you thought about counseling or CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?) CBT helped me a great deal with changing how I react to certain situations.

People often have told me practice breathing exercises, which may work for you, but did not work for me. Everyone needs a personalized treatment plan, but you must trust your doctor. Keep a diary of your panic attacks, including what you were doing, if you have had any nicotine/caffeine/any other substance.

^I agree... If it can be treated with minimal medication that would be the best course of action. Many medications work for a certain period of time and stop working, then you need to switch. Others you need to continue to up the dose. Others have side effects that pop up either instantly or later on or even have effects that can show up much later on in life or be permanent.

And with this when they throw you back into the world with this new medication and your 30 days, if it doesn't work it is difficult to function. Contact your doctor as soon as you notice improvements or a decline in your current state. If it's not working tell them as soon as you can so they can help you.

<3 brutus has some very wonderful knowledge and past experience I would certainly take his advice on the subject.

Also look into Mindful Meditation Practices. A fun one a friend taught me was to pretend (or actually do if it helps more) blowing bubbles..and in each bubble is a fragment of your anxiety. Watch the bubble take it. Similar to counting sheep at night.

Thanks for your insight. I tried busbar like 4 years ago and it did nothing and I was also on anti-depressants briefly 6 years ago. My anxiety didn't get so unmangeable until maybe 1 year ago, but my anxiety originally started from smoking weed I think/past trauma from 10 years ago. I'm not sure if substance use can bring out anxiety disorders? I had learned about breathing techniques but in the moment it's like everything pauses and you can't think clearly.

Brutus - It's hard enough having to talk to a doctor about anxiety. I do have an appt. with a doctor I've never met before on the 2nd and I hope it goes well. I get worried my symptoms may not be "severe enough" for medication sometimes.

I definitely think past substance abuse can play a role in developing anxiety disorders.

Just be honest with them and they should be able to help <3.

All great advice.

I especially agree with the comment on l-theanine. It works great for me, and can sometimes even help with insomnia. It is not instant (for me anyway), it is a few hours before i can feel the effects, but it does work. OP, you may want to try taking it as a daily dietary supplement. Just make sure you check with your doctor first. <3
