i dont really smoke that often anymore, but i was thinking of buying up an ounce of some purple haze tommarrow since i never see the shit around here, and i was just wondering what the best way would be to store the weed for the long run. anyone got any first hand experience with long term weed storage?

how long do you plan on storing it? months? years?

if you keep it in an airtight container and away from heat and light it should stay good for a while. if you're gonna store it for years try the freezer

make sure your weed is completely dried out, stick it in a ziploc freezer bag, take out all the air before you seal it, and just put it in the freezer.

^ I hate dry weed! I have pretty muched stopped smoking alot and the bag that used to last me a week has now been here for over a month. I say wrap it up nice and tight and if you can, store it in your fridge. I keep mine where the butter storage thing is. Its just like I got it yesterday, sticky and fluffy. I have kept some seperate from that on top of my tv and it got all dryed out and stale tasting.

if you seal the bud with too much moisture, it can grow mold. that is why it is recommended to make sure it is dry before storing

yeah i think ive smoked some weed that had a little mold on it, that shit tasted nasty, and i think it reduced the potency of the bud too. i think it should be fine in the freezer though, never had a problem with it b4.

A friend of mine actually had some of his buds start to go moldy on the plant itself before harvest! He gave me the buds and I stupidly smoked them - no major adverse reactions other than coughing and bad taste.

So do avoid moisture and mold when storing for any extended period of time - it can't be good for you :)

To fluff up the buds again you simply take some of the cured weed and put them in a sealed baggy overnight with some piece of vegetable - a lot of people use a little piece of carrot.

You don't need much, just a little piece, and if you are not careful and wash the piece of vegetable or leave it too long the method can introduce mold fairly quickly.

However, if you do a search you will find some threads discussing the best way to fluff up buds with this method and minimize the risk of mold and such - I forget the exact conclusion of the discussion if there was one. :)

Airtight containers should work fine. If it is still dry you can stick a piece of bread in there that is proportional to the amount of pot you have in the bag, good way to restore moisture to your bud.

If your buds are moldy on the stem or moldy in the bag, dont bother smoking it, as smoking molds is unhealthy to say the least.

You can however use moldy weed to make bubble hash and the mold just floats right on outta there and the bubble hash smokes great.

*edit

Forgot to try and answer the question, presuming your weed is nice and dry throw the buds into mason jars (glass pints) with a rubber seal. Than store in freezer and with time it might even get better.

i'd say get a nice water spritzer and spray with some sugar water, not much though, then wrap that shit up in some orange peels and syran(sp?) wrap it, then put it in tupperware for however long.:)

storing pot for a month

I usually keep my weed in plastic bags for a week or two but I just got a 1/2 ounce of white widow and I want it to stay fresh for a while.

so plastic baggie or wooden box? I would say the baggie becuse more air can be kept out right? any thoughts.. box or baggie?

I have never had good luck for long periods with plastic baggies. Glass jar with a good tight lid :)

Anything air tight. Use several zip lock type bags if it's easier than storing it in a jar.
