Hi,
I've been using kratom for about 9 months now, using it at a pretty low level. I've settled on about 2.5 grams a couple days a week, and skipping weeks sometimes, which is to say it would take me awhile to go through a large quantity. (I'm trying to avoid addiction)
Well, lo and behold, I now have a larger quantity because I bought 250g on the internet (thanks to a helpful tip on good vendors). I'm not saying that I may not increase my usage, but at this rate, it's going to be around for quite awhile.
Can anyone suggest the best way to store it? I was thinking maybe in small jars with a good rubber gasket, like canning jars, possibly in the freezer, but I'd prefer elsewhere. Do you think it would lose much potency in storage?
Thanks

Say you use 20 grams a month, then 250g might last you around a year.

Just keep it in a cool dark place in an opaque container. It should stay dry to avoid mold/bacteria growth. If you weren't actively using it I'd say vacuum seal it and place it in a manila envelope in a dark, cool place. But since you're using, a well sealed jar should do. Would probably avoid the freezer.

I've kept small amounts from random batches in cheap zip loc baggies for several years. It's relatively quite stable. Doesn't spoil easily.

Older kratom tastes more bitter, tends to have more side effects in higher doses, but otherwise is just fine.

Store it like any other edible dried plant, as dry as possible and air tight, room temp.

It should last 10-20 years if stored properly.

I have some 18 years that is as good as when I got it. It was the Bali leaf I had to grind myself and it was ground in a sealed bag. Works just fine. I'd be willing to bet it would last decades. Sometimes I think anything that can be boiled and oxidized and still work is pretty stable.

I actually have some I pull out every once in a while to test from years back.

I add a small amount of everclear just to moisten it, and then seal, if leaving for a long time. It standardizes the Kratom better. You can dry in doses it before use. A good thing to do is make a tea with it.
E: or just make a tincture. Alcohol is a great preservative if you're worried about lost potency.

Thanks for all the tips. That was encouraging. I'm also thinking it might be good to have some stashed away in case they ever decide to make it illegal. I like it quite a bit but it agrees with me better if I don't take it too often. For me, it's much better with my receptors in good shape
