you look at your arms and
look right past the disgusting nature of it all
the intravenous drug use
heroin as the starring character
you poke yourself in an effort to make the pain go away
and you know that it's a mere illusion
a bad one at that
one that can keep you very sick if practiced daily
your missions to the heart of the ghetto
the FD and KFC meeting spots
anything to get it right?
and when you do, accelerate your car to its maximum RPM's
arrive to see yourself juggling a spoon, a lighter
yes a syringe and cup of water
your fingers are twirling a cottonball
you hate the smell of the brown soup that's bubbling in front of you
you hold the ready-to-shoot syringe with your hands because
the liquid inside is still hot
now you are frantically looking for that belt of yours
finding a vein has become like playing darts to you
you can almost do it without looking you're *in* and watch as blood shoots back into your rig
now your finger is on the plunger pushing
you withdraw and untighten
count from 5 backwards
on 2 the brick wall hits you
and on 1 you stop caring

Thank you for sharing that. Thank you SO much. I've never IVed any drug, and I've been so close so many times, chasing that numbness is so tempting. Now I've made up for it by just putting more and more up my nose, but I have always wondered... now I can wonder a bit less.
Our personal battles can be worse than any nightmare we've ever imagined, and they come while we're awake, and no matter how hard we fight we sometimes can't seem to wake up from them. And when they are done, we have either learned from them or we have not. Keep the lessons you've learned close to you sweetie, and you'll do just fine.
Thanks again.
