Stopping hydromorophone and withdrawals.

Hello, recently I had major stomach surgery and was prescribed 180 4mg hydromorophone/dilaudid. Stupidly due to my needle addiction I decided I was going to IV them. So over the course of two weeks I used the whole script doing 40mg daily. I wants to get off them and was wondering how to do so properly and what to expect. Rehab is out of the question and I can't get into a maintenance doctor until next week to get prescribed soboxone. I will be getting a couple suboxone from a source to help with withdrawals, plus i have seroquel and a few other anti anxiety Meds and over the counter sleeping pills. Is the short period of use a good thing? Any info would be super helpful to me.

Do you use other opiates? What was your tolerance like before that? Alot of people find that a small amount of suboxone, 1-2mg is enough to stop withdrawals for a long period of time. Take 1 or 2 mg every hour until you feel like you can function. The drug has an extremely long half life, I can dose mine every other day and not really notice, but you will likely need to redose like every 12 hours. If you didn't use many opiates before this I would really recommend trying to taper with the subs you have by taking the bare minimum to get you by (remember they take a good hour to start working). If this is just a short binge you don't need to be put on maintenance drugs, they are a bitch to get off and expensive. If you are like most people, after the first week, max, you will get very very little out of the suboxone besides a feeling of normalcy (maybe a sense of well being) and an expensive addiction that only benefits the doctors and big pharma. Basically just use the suboxone to keep your wd's to a bare minimum and keep the opiate use to an occasional thing if ya can. :)

ps If you have the strips for the love of god don't shoot them. Ya I know it's theoretically possible to shoot small amounts without the naloxone doing anything, but think of what you are putting into your veins.

pps I know it's a bitch but exercise will help withdrawals, get them endorphins flowin!

As far as the question "Is a short period of use a good thing?" I wouldn't call using opiates a good thing (I used a fair bit of heroin and am now on suboxone, Im not judging you at all), but it's better than doing it everyday for a year I guess. I sure wouldnt try to rationalize 40mg iv dilaudid a day like that, you will find the slope gets mighty slippery. All in moderation my friend.

Two weeks is all? Really, your w/d's should be short and not too horrible. Subs are not necessarily the route to go, on this one, methinks--would provide an addiction you don't necessarily have already.

Hi, welcome to Bluelight!

If you have already had an opiate addiction, and judging by your route of administration and by your dosage, my inclination is that you indeed have, you may experience some minor to moderate withdrawal symptoms. The fact that you only used for a short period of time is indeed a good thing, as a longer stint would have ntensified the severity of your withdrawal.

I would like to echo the sentiment that buprenorphine would not be a wise choice, and would personally just grit and bear through it. It's not pleasant, but you will be much better off in the long run.
