No script i get off the streets. I have been taking 1 mg sometimes 2 mg of xanax once per day for about 45 days now. I used xanax recreational on and off for 5 years now. But was like only 2 or 3 mg on a weekend once a month. Now i have used for 45 days ever day. I want to quit because it is going to ruin my life. I would like to know a tapering system or some advice from others on quiting. I have 1 mg of xanax left and 25 Klonopins 1 mg . I was wondering what to expect and if theres anything I can do to make it easier? I have heard stiffness, siezures etc. Please help i am seroius about being clean again. If i can get clean i dont think ill touch another benzo :?

its great that you are serious about quitting your meds!

dont worry too much about being addicted, the more you expect a withdrawal the more you will feel it even its not real.
about 1.5 months with daily use of 1-2 mg of xanax isnt very dangerous (yet). but dont stop it all of a sudden, just to stay safe. keep decreasing your daily dose to zero.

stay one or two days repeatedly sober and youre good to go :)

Thanks Eric for reply.Does anybody know about some natural herbs with a calming effect and for sleep is Kava good any more herbs i could try?

i've never taken benzo's continuously for more than a week or two, but at the worst I've experienced is extreme anxiousness and insomnia. alcohol seems to help. opiates definitely help.

good luck!

Kava Kava is probably the best natural benzo alternative that I know of. If you buy some try and get the root powder as it's the most potent. Bacopa, Kratom and Valerian are all slightly sedating. Melatonin (not an herb but a natural chemical) is great for sleep but it doesn't have anxiolytic properties.
Thanks i will get me some kava kava today, Thanks eric

Just wanted to say thanks to Draigan and Cake walk for there replies.Would love to more about kava kava any one tryed it?

Yeh if it makes you feel any better I've taken higher doses of klonopin for much more than that amount of time and actually stopped w/out feeling anything.
I'm not sure if this is common with people but the doc had me on 4mg for 3 months straight. One day I decided I just didn't wanna fill my script anymore and had not even known about benzo wds back then. But for w/e reason I don't recall feeling any sort of rebound.

The last time I was on klonopin I made it about 10months, but that was the same time I went to detox for opiates (2yr). I remember familiar opiate wds, but I don't remember actual benzo wds. It was prob a mix of both at that time but I still don't remember 1 symptom outside of normal opiate wd.
I'm not telling you this so you keep using, but I'm telling you this cause for my own personal reasons I think you could very well just stop and maybe at most lose a couple nights sleep.

G/luck!! And GOOD FOR YOU for stopping so soon. If you made the same decision 2-3 years from now you could be facing one of the worst situations of a human beings life. Just to think of anything that trumps opiate wd makes me quiver inside.

Is there a section on here that talks about herbs? If so can some one direct me there.

You shouldn't have much of a dependency after 45 days. But still, I'd suggest tapering down the doses you are taking... that's always the safest way to quit benzos. I was prescribed clonazepam (Klonopin) daily for 6-7 years. Now I've switched to diazepam (Valium) and I'm tapering down that. I'm now down to 16mg's a day, and the withdrawals can be a nightmare at times, but it still beats quitting cold turkey which will probably kill me. :\

To the OP. I developed an addiction to valium after taking similiar dosages to you (.5mg xanax = 10mg valium) for around the same amount of time.

Everyone is different, but there is a good chance you will get withdrawal effects. here are some tips.

1) Go see a doctor. explain the situation and let them devise a tapering plan for you. Though you shouldn't have any extremely bad withdrawal effects due to not taking it for that long (you won't get things like seizures). Stopping abruptly can be a real shock to the system, so tapering minimising the discomfort (though it is still there).
2) despite what someone else said, STEER CLEAR OF ALCOHOL! my withdrawal symptoms were manageable until I combined them with a hangover. they were intensified terribly. with benzo withdrawal your GABA levels are already unstable and deficient, with alcohol (strongly works on GABA) they will be further unstable. I got unbearable nausea, extremely sensitive to light and sound (a dripping tap sounded like a car bomb), electric shocks in my head, and worse anxiety.
3) I found codeine to be very helpful with the withdrawal symptoms. Particularly the headahces and nausea. I wouldn't recommend taking anything stronger as it is just as addictive as benzos.
4) Your withdrawal symptoms will vary but on a similiar dose and length of time as you I got: bad nausea, headaches, anxiety, sweating, shaking, insomnia, mild depersonalisation and derealisation (only after I stopped completely), really jumpy, no energy, no appetite, difficulty concentrating, craving for benzos. most of these went away a few days after i stopped completely (after tappering). they were there the whole time whilst tappering.
5) you won't feel like eating, but force yourself. The nausea decreases abit if you eat plus it will make you feel better. Also keep your self busy (particularly with friends) so as to keep your mind off what you are going through.

I want to thank every one for there replies and input, opnions. I really like this site! any more opnions or ideals?

My advice would be to throw the xanax out and hand someone else you trust the klonopin. Try to go cold turkey at first, as you really arent on that much yet. Take your pulse and blood pressure a few times a day if you can, as long as you stay in a safe range just buck up for a week or so and it will all be over.

If it gets unbearable to you try taking .25mg of klonopin a day and see if that relieves the WDs. If not not then move up to .5mg but no higher IMO. After a few days on .25mg try going to either .125mg or .25mg every other day and jsut slowly taper off. but honestly you should be fine just quitting straight up. The last time I came off benzos I went cold turkey and it sucked but I made it through and I was taking a lot, like 100-200mg of Valium per day for over a year and towards the end eating like 20mg of Xanax a day. So if I got through it on those doses, you should be fine
