stoping smoking

Well the thing to know about nicotine, is cold turkey is not the way to go...

You need to taper... Your body will not fill in the gaps fast enough cold turkey, leading to severe cravings. Step down gradually till you get to a very nil amount, then stop. It will feel a lot better and heighten you chance of staying nicotine free.

Has anyone tried a drug called "Champix"? (Brand name for Varenicline)
It's free here on he NHS (You need a script from your doctor, but don't have to pay.)

It's supposed to block the nicotine receptors in the brain, so you get no pleasure from smoking.
I was well skeptical at first, being a smoker for 27 years, (I've never tried to quit before, but have to due to being diagnosed with high blood pressure).

After being on the Champix for just 4 days I've now been totally smoke free for 6 weeks. I still get the odd craving now and then when things get stressful, but have no desire to smoke, even when I'm around smokers.
The course lasts for 8 weeks, an everyone I've spoken to so far have remained smoke free at the end of the course.

One thing to mention though is that it can interfere with certain anti-depressants. It sent my GF totally loony and she has now has to switch to the gum instead.

I highly recommend not even touching zyban. It's just morally wrong to fuck with an antidepressant that is not even really helping you stop smoking. Just because it has Nicotinic receptor antagonistic properties, just the oral fixation alone can cause on to continue to smoke on it. I know, I tried. One of the biggest waste of money....

If your not depressed don't take an antidepressent.
Try chantix.
I used zyban and it about made me go nuts.
It's a dopamine reuptake inhibitor.
I had the freakiest dreams you could imagine(when I was able to sleep on that shit). And when I was awake my brain was "too" active if you know what I mean.
Too many thoughts about anything and everything. Maybe just me but...

Start with Snus instead. I quit smoking with the help of snus.

snusbutiken.com, you should buy General White Portion, best tasting there is!

+1 for Chantix

Check my "created threads" for a thread I made about it 15 months ago.

My University went smoke free and offered Chantix and since I like pills and was tired of $6 packs I decided to quit.

I was on it for about 10 weeks and haven't used tobacco (except in blunt wrap/gutted cigar + weed form) since.\

My noticed side-effects:

- First two nights intense vivid dreams (much like what happens on the patch but pretty hardcore and vivid. Not scary, just shit that would NEVERRRRRR happen)

- About 6 weeks into it I was "depressed" for a couple of days, can't specifically blame Chantix for that.

No suicidal thoughts, no anger/rage.

I kept smoking pot, but quitting pot wasn't the point ;)
