Im sorry to hear of your plight, my friend.
Diet plays a huge role in ADD and it's severity. How is your diet?
Ginkgo Biloba is a great herb that can help treat symptoms of ADHD. It has many benefits pertaining to what you desire.
In terms of herbs, I would suggest St. John's Wort, Ginkgo, Ginseng, Gotu Kola, Theobroma Cacao and Valerian, Chamomile as well as Skullcap. All of these things have shown promise in helping treat ADHD as well as many other neurological impairments such as Alzheimer's, depression, agitation/restlessness and anxiety. Don't mix all of these herbs and look into them each a bit further. Research St.John's Wort and it's contraindications, exempli gratia.
I would also suggest an effective exercise regimen. You must tire yourself out with rigorous exercise! Get some dumb-bells or better yet, DB's a barbell and a bench! Weight training is a great way to regulate neural function, reduce depression and anxieties and relieve symptoms of stress which is, as you know, closely linked with ADHD.
After this, I would heartily recommend meditation. Meditation is an absolutely astounding tool for achieving specific results and desires. For example, if you wish to reduce anxiety, alleviate depression, gain a sense of oneness, achieve personal growth and insight and hell, some have even managed to beat some "incurable" diseases with the aid of (visualisation) meditation. Meditation could help you immeasurably.
I would also suggest the same thing I propose to anybody with a mental (or even many physical) ailment and that is cold hydrotherapy, ie. cold showering. "How is having a cold shower going to help my ADD?!", I hear you cry! When you break down some of the aspects of ADD that can cause issue (stress, anxiety, agitation, inability to focus, depression) then you see just how it may help. Cold showering is known to alleviate depression and anxiety and I, along with many others can attest to such radical claims. I won't bother going into the science behind it right now, as my hands are starting to hurt from typing all day(!) but rest assured that a little google search could probably get you the info you need, try "cold shower benefits" and enjoy!
The first (and subsequent thereafter) times I did it, I couldn't help but laugh and smile so much as soon as I left the shower! There was a distinct euphoria that lasted for several hours, if not, all day! It was wonderful, and still never ceases to amaze me at just how much of a benefit it has had to my mental state.
As for needing to get stims from the doc about it, well i'm afraid I can't help there but all I can do is offer more beneficial (physically, long-term) and safer alternatives either for the time being or for good, depending on how you get on, mate!
