i've heard of several instances where a person had overdosed on heroin and was turning blue and the whole lot, and was literally forced back to life by a shot of cocaine or methamphetamine. the reputable www.heroinhelper.com even mentions it.
do you guys think this is a viable option?
 
It might be usefull for minor overdoses. I mean using a stimulant will stop the user from passing out/falling asleep and thus be as effective as walking it off. However, I am not particularly confident about its ability to work on more serious overdoses (note heroin helper only said he has seen it work).
Death via heroin OD is a result of respitory depression and not because of a slowing of the heart. While stimulants do have the beneficial effect of expanding our airways they also probably increase the amount of oxygen being consumed by the body. So if they don't wake up with administration of stimulant they could possibly be in worse shape. Moreover, if someone is truly in danger of an OD you are going to have to injet them with the stimulant which might be dangerous especially if you aren't entierly sure what other drugs (MAOIs plus stimulants can be quite fatal) they may be on.
In short if you can get it narcan is a far safer alternative. Once they have reached the point that you should be administering stimulants you shouldn't hesitate about blowing their high.
If the question was really asking should I do a line of blow after I inject heroin and I think I am going to nod off then the answer is probably yes. If you do way to much and nod off anyway your friend should shoot you up with narcan.

The drug which is used in the medical profession to bring around people who've overdosed on heroin is "Naltraxone"or"Nalorex"
It forces the opiates str8 out of the receptors in your brain,Some good community drug teams do stock naltraxone in ampuoles and give out to small groups of drug users incase of emergencyies,I've been trying to get them to stock it in my area,but not many do,Which is a damn shame as it saves lives,i could have saved at least 2 people from death if i had some naltrxone with me!
Naltraxone is used primarily as a opiate antagonist,so it blocks the opiate receptors,which stops users after detox,getting any kind of hit off heroin!!
You can also get "N.I.M.R.O.D."implants here in the UK(privately) they last for about 3months or more at a time,they are surgically placed under the skin,and this stops the user craving for the drug,as the user knows its a waste of time taking heroin as they'll get no hit whatsoever off it,
I've met a few people who've tried it +it apparently works wonders wityh staying clean.

From everything I've read, this isn't particularly helpful at the point where overdoses can be fatal. Like quale said, some coke or meth'll probably wake someone up if they're just drowsy and don't want to nod off and waste their high.
If their breathing is slowed way down and they've become unwakeable, I wouldn't count on stims working. In this case you should CALL 911 OR GET THEM TO A HOSPITAL as soon as possible. Heroin OD's are instantly reversible once paramedics are there... so many people die from OD's because their fuckface friends were too scared to call 911 or thought that they would just "sleep it off."
Incidentally italyouth, there are two opioid antagonists in common use -- naloxone (Narcan) and naltrexone. Naloxone is short-acting and is used to treat ODs, it needs to be injected. Naltrexone is orally active and longer-acting; it is used in detox programs.
 
Look, as other posters have shown, calling for medical help when a friend overdoses doesn't seem to be a viable option (like that idiot that waited till the next day to take his friend to the hospital) .. so hey, if the choices are either letting them "sleep it off" in a back room, or a quick shot of cocaine (remember, these are people that don't consider CALLING 911 an option) .. I gotta opt for the latter... yeah, it wont *chemically* resolve the issue (like Narcan will) but it might strengthen someones heartbeat and breathing a little...
So people, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CALL FOR HELP OR TAKE YOUR FRIEND TO THE HOSPITAL IF THEY OVERDOSE ON HEROIN, YOU CAN SAVE THEIR LIFE WITH CPR WHILE WAITING FOR HELP! .. injecting stimulants into an OD victim is NOT A GOOD THING TO DO ... but I guess if you must insist on killing them one way or another, you could stick them with some meth or speed and hope you don't get hit with a manslaughter or even murder-2 charge...
 
Coz buprenorphine (subutex-tablets) is a mixed opioid agonist antagonist and almost impossible to OD on it can be used by IV:ing to save people OD :D on H. This based on the fact that buprenorphine binds more efficiently to the opioid receptors and therefore replaces the heroin alreydy bound to them.

CAN a shot of coke/meth 'snap' someone out of a heroin induced doze? Yes, it's possible, but if they are lucid enough to come to from that they would most likely wake on their own .. a true overdose victim isn't going to wake up from some stim, might even do more harm..
