short answer- yes. qelbree is a non-stimulant. qelbree and stimulants do not have a cross tolerance.
long answer- qelbree is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. similar to how most anti-depressants are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. when your brain releases neurotransmitters and they bind to the receptors, after a while they cycle back into the presynaptic neurons, basically to be used again later. drugs like qelbree prevent that from happening, keeping the neurotransmitter bound to the receptors for longer to increase its effectiveness and duration of use. meds like qelbree and antidepressants do this to maximize the effects we receive from the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and serotonin, respectively. norepinephrine is largely used by our brains for effects like focus, increased heart rate, vasoconstriction, energy, etc. qelbree does so selectively, only affecting certain norepinephrine receptors as opposed to affecting all of them.
stimulants like amphetamines primarily act on dopamine as dopamine agonists, effectively causing the release of dopamine in our brain. more dopamine binds to more receptors causing an increase in the effects of dopamine. stimulants like ritalin and cocaine are non-selective dopamine reuptake inhibitors. they prevent the reuptake of primarily dopamine, as well as norepinephrine to a lesser degree. this works similarly to qelbree, but the fact that it’s non-selective makes a big difference. qelbree maximizes the effects of the norepinephrine that our brains are actively using, cocaine/ritalin maximize and increase the amount of dopamine our brains can use at once.
stimulants, amphets/coke/ritalin, primarily work on dopamine (and norepinephrine lesser so) and allow our brains to release and use more of it. qelbree just allows our brains to use the norepinephrine that it’s already using for longer before the neurotransmitter breaks off from the receptor, increasing the
anyhoo, as long winded as i can be, yes. taking qelbree counts as time off stimulants. i used to be addicted to speed then years after getting clean i started taking qelbree. the only minor overlap is on norepinephrine, so you may become mildly tolerant to the peripheral nervous system side effects. but broadly speaking, there is no cross tolerance
